Overall Satisfaction with Parallels Remote Application Server

In our marine operation department, new applications require that we control all inventory in the company fleet. This application is not web-based. To run this application we should have access to the server remotely; without this application, we mistakenly buy materials twice or even more. To solve this we needed something to control this. The problem is that communication between ships and head office is very costly and slow.
  • Easy
  • Price
  • Support
  • RAS from Microsoft should be included
  • Duplicate buying material
  • Inventory organized
In order to have RAS on all company ships on a low budget, we chose to go with Parallels Remote Application Server. Citrix was another option but it was pricey in comparison. We knew that Citrix might work better in the future, but our company didn't require the additional functions that Citrix provides.
To install Parallels Remote Application Server in our host server was simple. To install it in company ships was even easier--anyone can do it. The best part for me is that they can keep shortcut icons of the application directly on the user's Windows desktop.
Actually, we don't use this function in company ships, but I use it in testing. It was nice to know that you can convert normal applications to web applications in a different way.
In order to access this server remotely using Windows Remote Desktop and open network ports, which was very risky, Parallels Remote Application Server provided what we needed in one step.
Many times during installation I didn't understand what is the best way to configure the server, and support helped me to install it three times after I formated the server.
