Overall Satisfaction with Amazon Web Services
We use Amazon Web Services in a number of ways across the entire organization. It addresses the need for flexibility and reactive infrastructure that you cant find in a bare metal environment. It is also great to POC a new design or product as it is very easy to spin up, scale, and evolve as needed
- scaling
- security and access management
- cost tracking
- infrastructure as code
- UI is clunky
- cost tracking is good but could be simpler or implied
- Helps to mitigate fixed cost, e.g. more on demand
- Costs can spiral if you dont have safe guards in place
- By requiring cloud native design we have saved many dev hours in the long run by putting these designs in place
Amazon Web Services has a much more seasoned and known set of tools. The learning resources and documentation is much more prevalent and applicable to more scenarios which definitely helps with implementation. Google cloud does offer comparable products, and the user interface is a lot more intuitive in my opinion however AWS is the market standard.
