Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT

Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is used by our organization to maintain a database of past, current, and prospective donors for our non-profit higher education foundation. We have about 30,000 constituent records in our database, which includes both individuals and organizations. RE NXT is a web-based extension of the RE7 database and is more streamlined and modern, allowing for some easy customization and ease of use for people who may be intimidated by the old Database View. However, adopters should be aware that RE NXT does not have all the functionality of the old RE7 and that for many tasks, using the Database View will still be necessary.

  • The query, export, and reporting systems are not user-friendly
  • Updating shared addresses is troublesome and confusing
  • No easy way to maintain a central record for businesses/organizations with multiple locations, such as bank branches
  • In my experience, Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is lacking in functionality and the database view is still required to complete many essential tasks.

The most used aspect of the NXT web view is the gift snapshot that can be viewed on each donor's profile. It shows total giving, the last gift was given, and other breakdowns that are very useful when planning outreach and/or campaigns. Truthfully, we don't utilize many of the other analytics processes within NXT at this time.

I love that the training is online and live with an instructor. There is also self-paced online training. However, it can often be hard to find a session that is offered at a convenient time. It can also be really difficult to take what we learn and apply it to our own databases. The training sessions themselves range between 1hr to 3hrs and typically cover a wide range of systems. I wish the training were broken up more to allow more focus on certain topics, instead of cramming 4 different topics into one session.

Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is really great for organizations that need an easy way for staff to quickly view donor information or gift information. The Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT web view is easy to navigate and easy on the eyes. However, I find it nearly impossible to use for running reports, entering gifts, or entering or updating constituents. I utilize the database view for 99% of my work. That being said, the database view looks and feels like it was designed in the late 90s.
