Effective First Line of Defense
Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Umbrella
We use Umbrella across our organization as well as integrate it into enterprise, educational, and municipal networks. Its our go to for a first line of network security. Umbrella has been added more and more features for all customers without any significant licensing or implantation changes. Highly recommended.
- Easy to use
- Effect first layer of security
- always improving
- versatile
- can be difficult to deploy mobile agents, except for chromebooks
- application category look up tool needed
- scheduled reporting features are limited
- increase productivity via application and content filtering/monitoring
- decrease traffic load due to CnC traffic and cryptomining being blocked
Umbrella on its own can do well protecting clients outside the network as long as you install the agent. The difficulty and consistency of deploying this agent depends on the type of endpoint and the system that will push out the agent. In my experience its a much smoother to provide remote protection when combined with Cisco Anyconnect.
Integration with Cisco Meraki and Cisco Secure Endpoint is easy and works great. Integration with Cisco's VPN, Anyconnect, really depends on the type of firewall you have. Deploying Anyconnect with the umbrella module is easy on Ciscos ASA firewall, but is not officially supported on Cisco's FTD firewalls. This has been the case for the last couple years of firmware releases on FTD, but it subject to finally be supported in a near update that is currently in beta.
