Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Umbrella

I have used personally and worked at companies that use it. I have clients now that use Umbrella and it is used to manage internet activity without the need for internal proxy servers and gives a great experience. The speed of the software with little overheads means that it is ideally situated to almost any environment.

Removing the errors that normal sysadmins can make with conventional proxy servers Umbrella offers a cloud based solution that requires very little skill to manage.
central cloud based management of the agent also means that filtering can occur outside the corporate network.
The Azure integration could be better. I usually use device based management but user based would be so much better. with device based management it means that if it’s a multi user device then every user will get the same filtering so bear this in mind when designing your solution.
With a Fortinet/Umbrella issue it took Cisco support about three months to resolve the issue that we had despite me telling them the issue. I was given solutions that were supposed to lock the Umbrella Roaming Client to a specific version that didn't work despite Cisco assuring me that it would.
Umbrella works well in many scenarios. I would however stress that the standard roaming client should be scrapped in place of AnyConnect with the Umbrella Module which works at a Kernel level. This resolves issues with VPN clients that also try to take control of the DNS. Both the roaming client and AnyConnect use virtually no resources either which is a big plus.
