Use Cases and Deployment Scope

CMiC is being used by our Project Management team as well, as the Accounting team. Integration between Project Management and Accounting has been extremely helpful in tracking contracts and purchase orders so payments are not missed or overpaid. Estimating has not utilized it in its full capacity yet as distribution is likely more effective via email or other platforms.

Alternatives Considered

Jonas Enterprise Construction Management Software

Jonas was briefly used before CMiC (years ago so their software must have been updated since then), but the lack of integration between project management and accounting in Jonas was a deterrent. Things were not displayed easily as well as the logs that were created displayed a lot of redundant information.

Support Rating

There is a support email that we can send in our questions and bugs to address. The usual turnaround for solutions are typically more than a week or depending on the extensiveness of the bug. Updates seem to be done every few years as well which results in new bugs arising and new integration for all staff.

Unified Platform Benefits

Workflow has become easier since everything is integration between financials and project management is possible. Processing of invoices, contracts, forecasting can all be done through CMiC seamlessly without extra work. Estimating is the only program that needs work and integration of workflows between them and the project department is external from CMiC.

CMiC Product Scalability

CMiC can likely be scalable whether dealing with smaller project sizes or larger projects as it is the same process, but likely just more entries and larger dollar values. In terms of scalability regarding the number of users on the system, it would likely just depend on accounts to be purchased for access.

Likelihood to Recommend

Integration between accounting and project management is well suited to track contracts and purchase orders so that payments and invoices can be properly cross-referenced. Forecasting is also a great tool to aid in tracking projected profits and commitments already made through contracts and purchase orders. Timesheet entry is also a good tool to track and allocate costs.

Pitfalls of CMiC include information tracking modules like RFIs, submittals, and meeting minutes. Meeting minutes have certain bugs when entering notes. RFIs and submittals are more so for tracking and not distribution, as it is unlikely 3rd party users are going to jump on board with utilizing the software.

CMiC is effective, but being refined.
