Overall Satisfaction with Conductor Searchlight
We use Conductor in multiple ways. First, it acts as a bellwether for our organic search channel. We're able to rule out immediately if a performance problem is ranking related. We also are able to track ROI on our search work over time. Also, we use the tool to identify content opportunities/gaps on our site.
- At a glance reports. Once you're set up, it's easy to keep track of your performance.
- Preferred landing pages - keyword mapping. This is great to help align keyword strategy with a landing page experience.
- Competitive analysis is valuable - especially at a URL level. It helps answer who's outranking me and what are they doing?
- Segment comparison - I love being able to break down my site by segments to track performance.
- A keyword planner as an alternative to Google Adwords would be valuable. With as much keyword data that they have, a tool with a little bit more muscle than Visibility Explorer would go a long way.
- Sometimes I like to dig into data with Excel. Conductor has a lot of good data but I'd love to be able to download a crawl of my site with a lot of meaty information, similar to Screaming Frog, but with my PLP and keywords.
- Exposing content gaps has been very valuable. We can easily make the case for more resources to become competitive in lucrative niches.
- In the age of "not provided", I'm able to report on keyword themes with preferred landing pages. How's keyword "x" doing? I can give an answer backed up by data.
- BrightEdge and Moz
I actually love the competition between BrightEdge and Conductor. Once one tool gets ahead in an area, the other will quickly improve and surpass. For us, the relationships that we've built up at Conductor made the difference. They'll bend over backwards to help us out. Moz is a great tool and we still have a subscription, but Conductor does our heavy lifting.
