Overall Satisfaction with Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)

Google Workspace [(formerly G Suite)] is used for all email and Google access for staff and students in our district. We use mail, drive, docs, classroom and other. Having google as a one stop shop for so many different needs helps us keep problems to a minimum. Having all of the apps that Google hosts available to us in the cloud also keeps costs down on-site both in terms of hardware and maintenance.
  • Email is great. It doesn't require any on-site hosting.
  • Having one account that is able to use so many different features is very convenient.
  • Google Workspace for education is nice for allowing teachers and students to participate in their respective roles.
  • The admin functions often times do no allow for mass changes behind the scene.
  • When there is downtime, there is no option for offline access and any troubleshooting is out of our hands.
  • Getting support can sometimes be difficult. While I can always get someone, it can take a while and/or require a callback.
  • Keeps costs down. We don't have to host our own services and don't have maintain hardware.
Google Drive [(formerly G Suite)] is so much better for collaboration than Microsoft Office. But Office is still used by so much of the world, it's necessary as well. Having Azure Active Directory for Windows is a nice addition to an onsite active directory, and offers many features for user administration and bulk edits that Google Workspace is lacking. But ultimately Azure AD works for a different subset of computers that Google Workspace.

Google Workspace [(formerly G Suite)] is great for schools and small businesses. While I've never been part of a large organization (>2500 people), I imagine that some of the behind the scene changes can become increasingly difficult as you increase the number of users. There are third party apps and cloud companies that allow for some of these changes, but it would be better if it was natively available through the Google Workspace GUI.
