Overall Satisfaction with GoToMyPC

I have used GoToMyPC for my own remote work as well as to reach the devices of other employees to share files, to fix IT problems, to leave notes, etc. It's a daily go to tool. The company owner is often at a 2nd residence in another state and being able to work together through GoToMyPC on his other devices allows him to enjoy being away from the office.
I work remotely at least 2 days a week and this gives me flexible hours and more freedom to work from anywhere. I can log onto my work PC from a laptop, tablet or even my phone. And since we don't have walk-in customers, I don't really need to be in the office daily. Today's work world is increasingly digital and cloud based, so there is no reason to spend the time driving to an office when I have my office with me via my tablet. And I can log onto my work computer and use GoToMyPC from it to reach the other computers on our network as well as the ones with GoToMyPC subscriptions all from one screen.

  • Love to be able to print on my local printer. If I have documents that need to be printed, signed and mailed, I don't have to wait to go into the office.
  • I can work remotely on my office PC just as if I were sitting in front of it.
  • I can log onto our other devices from one remote connection.
  • I don't see much that I would change. It works very well and the more complicated an app becomes, the harder it is to use. It already has a lot of features. It has even kept the FTP option if it's needed.
  • It's allowed me to work remotely at any time of day. I can instantly access my PC at 6 AM if we have an emergency job come it. We repair water main breaks.
  • The company owner can work from his 2nd home in another state without having to think about loss of revenue because he's not in the office.
I know LogMeIn and GoToMyPC merged, but I didn't like the LogMeIn format. It was harder to use. I was forced into it because GoToMyPC didn't support one of my devices.

Using GoToMyPC

2 - The owner and the office manager - we have a small office with only 2 people. But I (office manager) often work remotely and the owner is at a second residence in another state for 3 months of the year. This is our best option to keep working as if we were physically in one office.
1 - I am the office manager and do all of the IT work. It's one of the reasons I was hired 16 years ago. I am proficient in installing software, adapting it to our needs and keeping our entire network running smoothly. The owner is an end user for whom I try to make everything as usefull as possible. He is not interested in fixing apps/hardware, just wants to use them.
  • We are often in different locations need to push paperwork back and forth faster than email
  • I work on my office computer from anywhere. All of my files are there along with the programs I need to run them. I prefer that to strictly cloud based apps.
  • Most of our construction plans are far too large to email back and forth so drag and drop between computers is a must have feature. I used ftp at one time, but drag & drop is much nicer.
  • I can invite other people to share my desktop when I need to work on a project in real time with a person who can not be present. Better than Zoom for me.
  • I've been using GoToMyPC for over 20 years. Hard for me to find something unexpected. I use it daily, so it's my dependable tool for remote work, file transfer, remote printing, remote collaboration, and just being able to see my work computer as if I were sitting in front of it.
  • I think we're at our max. I have 3 of our PCs running it in 3 different places.
I've useed it since it was first available - over 20 years ago - and I don't plan to stop using it until I no longer work in an office.

Evaluating GoToMyPC and Competitors

Yes - I had to use LogMeIn for a while on one of my tablets because it wouldn't use GoToMyPC. I honestly didn't like it as well and as soon as I bought a new tablet, I cancelled LogMeIn and was using GoToMyPC. The LogMeIn interface felt clunky compared to GoToMyPC.
  • Ease of Use
If it's not easy to use it makes work more difficult. The idea of a remote desktop is to let you work seamlessly from anyware. I want to forget that I'm working remotely, not have to figit with the remote app. GoToMyPC has always been great at doning that.

Using GoToMyPC

It works so well that you forget you're working remotely. Just click the icon, logon and you are on your host machine. The frame for GoToMyPC hides and you are at work.

Yes - The mobile interface is fine if you need to see a file or need to see your work email. (My work email stays at work and does not come to my phone.)
But if you plan to work productively on a 6" cell phone, then you will be disappointed. My work computer has a 27" screen and it doesn't translate well to my cell. I guess it depends on how you plan to use the mobile interface. Without a keyboard, I have a hard time doing most work related documents.
