Overall Satisfaction with HipChat

We are using HipChat across our organization. We're a small startup team of 14 and HipChat allows us to quickly touch base with one another, get quick information we need, and share life/fun updates as well. It minimizes the amount of email we send as well.
  • Easy to share documents
  • Autopopulates link information into the chat
  • 1:1 chat rooms
  • Chat rooms that can be public or private between invited members
  • I've tried to get rid of the desktop notifications for chats but they continue to pop up, which is distracting for me (but perhaps helpful for others).
  • If I log out and log back into HipChat after a certain amount of time, sometimes I can't see which rooms I've missed messages in (no notifications).
I personally have only used Gchat in other work settings. HipChat definitely has more functionality. We also use Asana separate from HipChat to manage projects.
It's definitely great to use with either a small team or a department for quick communications. I do think it can be hard to search for and find old conversations (vs. in email) so I would suggest keeping any very important conversations where you'll need a record in email vs. HipChat.
