Overall Satisfaction with Kissmetrics

We have used Kissmetrics tools for several months, originally as a supplementary analytical tool to Google Analytics, then as a selfstanding toolset that overcomes several Google limitations. I have used this solution by delivering marketing and sales optimization projects, aiming at reaching higher conversion rates. Using this tool helped us to set up and analyze the customer behavior and delivered nice reports in a short time.
  • Planning and implementing campaigns, A/B testing, conversion rates measurement
  • Very useful by mid sized company (client), easy to deploy, setup and get quick reports
  • Sales funnel reports with zoom-in ability by analyzing the root causes for customer behavior
  • Integration with other tools - when an "online" or "near-online" integration is required the tool does not cope. You can always export data to JSON etc. and load them into a second system, but this is not a viable solution for many business applications.
  • UI - the user interface is not very user-friendly, it is not always very intuitive.
  • It helped to start thorough monitoring of new, returning clients, conversion rates and helped to improve the conversion rates.
  • It is a paid tool, that provided very good value for money in our use cases by a middle-sized and large company.
  • It offers comparable features to Google Analytics Premium in some aspects.
The Google Analytics Premium is a more complex tool, with possible integration to AdWords, Tag Manager etc.
Kissmetrics offers a narrower set of IT features, that however fully suit most needs. Google Analytics for example limited the data exports to 10,000 lines per click - to download a large report with e.g. one million rows requires to implement a script that repeats thousand times a request t oretrieve data. These artifical limitations are not present by Kissmetrics and one is able to export the data to own big data analytical tools.
Strong points:
  1. Engagement scenario planning
  2. A/B testing
  3. Simple and easy to use conversion rates analysis
  4. Finding possible root cause or touch points where the web or mobile front-end can do better
  5. After getting used to "what means what" in the interface, it is quick to accomplish tasks within Kissmetrics
Weak points:
  1. When the customers clear the cookies between visits, it is impossible to recognize they are returning visitors, not new ones. There are ways how to keep the digital signature, but this is implicitly not allowed without a consent of the client (neither here, nor by Google etc.). An analyst needs to recognize returning clients, from really new clients to the site. There should be some legal way how to overcome this "deleted cookies" issue, but it is not available here
