We used LM across the whole company to monitor everything from devices to apps. This was brought in to replace SolarWinds Orion. At first, there were A LOT of items to look at. We had to turn a lot off due to resource issues with the DC collectors.
- Nice graphs
- A lot of data
- Easy to use
- Way too much info.
- Fluff has run rampant.
- Collectors get overwhelmed easily.
- Ties to Service Now tickets
- Nice graphs on data points.
- Emails are a lot so be prepared to turn a lot of the fluff off.
I didn't select SolarWinds but after many more years with SolarWinds and prefer it. The selection process was done way before I showed up. If I was to be asked to choose one over the past one, I would have said keep the old one and just put some time into it for doing network.
Hybrid cloud mostly with over 2000 devices being watched. We did have Netflow for networking going on our edges but had to disable it because it sucks. There is info, but no ability to dive deeper in detail. I would suggest they partner with scrutinizer for what is really needed for NetFlow.
The rollout was a huge project and we had pro services help get it on its feet. There is no migration tool from SolarWinds, so I had to massage spreadsheets and reports out of SolarWinds and do bulk imports into lM. That really didn't work correctly, so I ended up entering a lot manually.
Too much to learn for me. I have too much on my plate to become an LM programmer. This tool can do a lot if it's your whole focus. We removed an older copy of SolarWinds and have tied this LM instance to Service Now for auto ticket generation. Yeah, more emails and now auto tickets in the middle of the night for the on-call person. Faster to be woken up I guess is a win.
