Overall Satisfaction with LumApps

I assist clients with onboarding LumApps into their organization. LumApps provides organizations with a hub of relevant data, along with a chance to create 2-way dialogue. When organizations are looking to boost collaboration, gather the voice of the team in a constant way, and provide streamlined processes to find key information, LumApps can help!
  • Communities to invite open conversation within affinity groups
  • Searching news archives is fast and easy
  • New hire onboarding data hub to reduce silos and uncover key starting data
  • CSS is not recommended for use, but certain features like a button to jump back to the top of the page are missing unless you hack a workaround
  • The mobile app experience is a separate build from the desktop version, which requires content creators to apply extra effort to the design process
  • Pages load slowly if certain widgets are used
  • Employee experience boosted upon hiring
  • Employee experience improved through recognition channel options
  • Saved time in finding key sites and links to frequently used documents
LumApps' out-of-the-box features can offer most clients everything they need to build an intranet. This means that a smaller comms or HR team assigned to the intranet effort will not necessarily need to hire a web developer or someone with coding experience in order to deploy a site. We think this is great and look forward to the continued feature deployments to have sites do more without code. For organizations that have a lot of style preferences or use a lot of animation/video, having someone on the team with web design experience may be required to achieve desired results. Currently, page and features on the page load time can vary greatly. LumApps is working to adjust the back end, but right now this does require content creators to be very strategic about what features they apply to a page in order to achieve their desired load times.
With LumApps you can display Google tools with ease. So, if you want to feature a drive file or folder with key onboarding materials you are able to do so. Users' individual calendar, Gmail, and drive can be embedded as well. However, we find that displaying those tools actually detracts users from exploring other content on the intranet. Therefore, it is often preferred to let those tools live on their own, so the intranet can be more of a connection-building and data-finding space, not another window to read emails.
LumApps offers organizations both a data push and a data pull option. Controlling page viewership by the audience sets this tool apart from many other communication options. When organizations put in the appropriate design time effort to leverage LumApps' feature set, their users will be able to surface information quickly and precisely.

LumApps works well with a dedicated owner plus a few dedicated news authors. As with any intranet, keeping content fresh and relevant is key, so we always encourage having the right human support to match the technology investment. They constantly update their technology, so it will take a few dedicated individuals to stay up on monitoring the new releases to be sure you make the most of your purchase. LumApps can be pricey for small organizations compared to a few other services on the market today. Clients need to consider if they need all of the features that LumApps offers, as there can be upcharges for things like their video service.
