Overall Satisfaction with Nutanix AOS

Nutanix AOS is being used across the whole organization. It is replacing a competitor in the virtualization landscape.
  • It is intuitive.
  • It frequently gets enhancements.
  • It is based on open source code.
  • GUI could use some polishing.
  • Some connections between GUI and CLI are not there yet.
  • Cost of operations has been reduced.
  • Digital footprint has been reduced.
  • Learning curve is more difficult with a new platform.
Nutanix AOS is very responsive to customer issues. Their support team does a good job working with the customer to troubleshoot an issue and find an appropriate solution. Sometimes they want you to recreate an issue in your environment and these things should be reserved for the Nutanix lab, not the customer's platform.

The product needs to be ready for production environments. Being able to deploy it knowing it is going to be usable and dependable is a critical factor when making the purchase. There is a learning curve when learning a new platform, Nutanix does a good job of offering support to help make that curve more manageable and helps the customer with deployment plans.
Nutanix is certainly a change from what was the industry standard. Nutanix did a good job of offering hands-on and virtual training to get users to use to the interface and a new way of doing things. Much like any platform, the best training is using it. Nutanix did a nice job of giving us ample time with Proof of Concept hardware to get us acclimated.
Nutanix has performed fairly well overall. There were certainly some bumps in the road, as there would be with any new platform but nothing that was a show stopper. One detraction is that their updates are not vetted enough. Releasing items that are not thoroughly tested can lead to unnecessary errors and their support team is great but it would be ideal to see this process tightened up.
Nutanix is not as a mature product but the ability to automate through using their API is one of the strongest reasons for choosing this platform. Automation helps remove human error and this leads to more time for deployment teams to spend on other activities. Their feature set continues to grow and improve, so this will only help the product gain more customers.

Nutanix AOS is great when you are starting a company and you do not have any infrastructure--it is ideal to build with.

It is not the strongest when converting from another platform, although it can do it.
