Overall Satisfaction with Prophix

We currently use Prophix for all our financial planning and reporting. It is used primarily only within the finance department. Our main use is the Prophix for Excel plugin as we tend to do all our reporting and analysis in excel and use that plug in to read/write data to and from the system.
  • Financial Reporting
  • Version Control
  • Ad Hoc Analysis
  • Prophix for Excel Stability
  • Data Import Functions
  • User Interface
  • Streamlined Budgeting
  • Better Brand Profitability Reporting
  • Direct Cost Evaluation
It has made our excel models more powerful and allows us to read/write data between those models and the system. We live and die with the excel plug in.
Previously we used MS Navision and Prophix would pull the data directly based on an automated nightly job (both systems use SQL). We recently changed to SAP as our ERP and Prophix does not play well with SAP... we are now required to manually dump data in 2 files from SAP, and then perform manual loads using about 13 different jobs to get the data into Prophix. It has definitely set us back 2 days per month. I don't fault Prophix, but it would be nice if it played better with SAP given SAP is the biggest thing out there.
We use on-premise which is important for us. In recent months we've looked to upgrade to help us remedy some issues we've now experiencing with the Prophix system, however, it appears they are moving totally to cloud based solutions, and will rely more on O365 for their excel connectivity which is less than ideal for us.

Do you think Prophix delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Prophix's feature set?

Yes

Did Prophix live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Prophix go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Prophix again?

Yes

Hyperion is better in Excel, but Prophix is a better overall package.
Prophix is great for slicing and dicing data that is available but perhaps not in the form or function required. It allows me to see the same data that is in my ERP system but from a different angle. My only hesitation to fully recommend the product would be their apparent reliance on O365 going forward. All new builds/updates are for the cloud based system and the use of O365 as your office interface. Totally leave us that want On Prem, and own our own MS licenses out in the cold.

Growing with Prophix

Prophix has helped us look at our data differently, and more effectively. I have learned that having a stand alone system for planning and reporting can be a huge benefit vs trying to do it in your ERP.
We only use the system for finance functions
I was not involved in the sales process.

Using Prophix

No we don't use them, we do all our reporting in Excel
We did use these at first but the reports can be restrictive and time consuming to create so we have moved back to using excel. The plug in to directly draw data from Prophix into Excel has been a life saver.
4 - Finance
1 - Little as we tend to need Prophix to do anything from a support standpoint.

Integrating Prophix

No harder or easier than other software packages I am aware of.
  • Microsoft Navision
  • SAP
Navision was great, SQL query to pull data out and a process to import data into Prophix. SAP was awful, had to develop a load of different queries in SAP which generated reports, and then setup and run 13 different processes manually to get data into Prophix.
  • File import/export
None
If you use SAP it will not play very nicely with Prophix.

Using Prophix

ProsCons
Like to use
Easy to use
Technical support not required
Consistent
Convenient
Feel confident using
None
  • ad hoc analysis
  • Report Studio
About the same as other packages I've used

Prophix Reliability

It's pretty flexible. I can see the value in rolling it out to other functions or departments.
Never really have many outages with the system.
It's fairly quick, as the models get bigger the performance definitely slows down.

Relationship with Prophix Software

The sales team has always been friendly and easily accessible.
Support is decent, not industry leading but adequate. Issues will get resolved in a timely manner.
I was not involved in the negotiation

Prophix Support

ProsCons
Good followup
Knowledgeable team
Problems get solved
Difficult to get immediate help
Need to explain problems multiple times
Yes - No, the excel add in no longer works with none O365 version of excel. I don't run O365 version so there is no fix for my issue and no apparent desire to service those of us not using O365.
When paying for their solutions team to do something for you they tend to be excellent. For example they helped us create SQL bridges between our ERP and Prophix and they were great.
I find a lot of times we require a ticket the answer we get is "that is how the system works, or the system can't do that" etc. We moved to 64bit machines years ago and it took Prophix forever to catch up. The system was not stable and would crash regularly and the support group simply said it is not compatible yet. I never received an update about when it was I had to keep looking until finally I found they fixed it.

Prophix Training

  • in-person training
It was effective and in enough depth to help our users become comfortable with the system quickly

Upgrading Prophix

Yes - Yes but it is something that you need Prophix support to do for you. I have in house IT that knows what he's doing, however, every time there is an issue or an error message that only Prophix would know how to troubleshoot. We just got into the process of paying the fee to have them do it for us.
  • None, seems the same as the prior version
  • None as they seem to have moved to only favour the cloud solution with o365 integration
Yes - We were going to move from the smartclient version to the webclient version as we thought it would correct some issues we're having however it turns out that it will not so the project was cancelled.
