Unitrends [Data Center Backup and Recovery] is used within our school district to backup many different virtual machines from Vmware which covers multiple departments. We also back up to Unitrends cloud our mission-critical VMs to ensure redundancy, This ensures that we have all data stored securely no matter what type of event may occur whether it be a weather event or cyber event.
Pros
- Extremely simple to add new hosts and quickly backup vms.
- Simple to use platform which allows for painless restores from a point in time or even file level.
- Support for Unitrends is top of the line! Support is always super helpful and quick to answer.
Cons
- Initial price point can be a little bit of a turn off but WORTH the money.
- The ROI has been high for us. When it was time for a new appliance Unitrends offered a great promotion to encourage us to upgrade to the latest appliance and pay actually less that the price of continuing support on a 3 year old device.
- Its impossible to put a value on the return of data in your organiziation. I do not worry at all about my data in the hands on Unitrends.

I have used tape backups and also cheaper products but Unitrends far exceeds my expectations for an on-prem and off-prem backup appliance. I think the biggest thing in that the onboarding team was amazing and made it super simple to understand how the platform works and the amazing feature sets.
