Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery
We are currently using a Unitrends [Data Center] Backup and Recovery appliance to backup our whole organization. This is the second appliance we have used as we upgraded to our current model a few years ago at renewal time. We use it to backup network files, SQL Server backups, and Exchange databases. After the initial setup, the appliance is mostly hands off. Recovering files is generally quick and easy although, thankfully, have not had to do it often.
- Support is excellent
- The appliance is well made and has worked as expected for years
- The UI is simple and yet powerful
- Would like to see it be a target for native SQL Server backups
- Have been able to quickly recover files that were accidentally deleted or modified by a user
- Have been able to restore a SQL database that was negatively affected by a DELETE query

I was using BackupExec before switching to the Unitrends appliance. BackupExec was not working well and the maintenance window was getting too long to backup what I needed to. With BackupExec, I needed to provide the storage medium as well as take care of the backup strategy and it was just too complicated. I selected the Unitrends appliance because everything was in one package and the licensing was much simpler.
