Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery
We use two separate recovery 604 devises in our environment. One is in our office for all of our day to day systems used for development and accounting. We also have one in our production data center environment backing up our databases hourly and our websites. The devices are great. They have a great set it and forget it type of operation. Every morning I get emails letting me know all jobs completed successfully. The few times I have ever noticed an issue, their support has been phenomenal. I almost never have to wait long and the problem is usually fixed with in an hour.
- Reporting is one thing they do great. If a job should fail I get an email as soon as it fails and can use the information provided to diagnose why. I also get daily emails reporting what has been backed up in the last 24 hours and what is scheduled to be backed up.
- Support. The online and phone support provided by Unitrends is some of the best I have ever worked with.
- Easy to use. The device is very easy to set up and use. I was able to start my first backup in less than 20 min after starting the setup process and navigating their web interface is very intuitive.
- Cost. The cost of ownership over time has already saved us thousands over our last product and doubled our backup capacity.
- If i had to harp on one thing it would be the SQL backup solution. If your database is active 24/7 you will get time outs during the backup process. Our solution was to use a separate share to do native sql backups to then grab that share with the unitrends file level backups.
- Fortunately we haven't had to recover much. I can think of a handful of instances where a develop over wrote his code and had it back in minutes. The biggest savings for us has come over the costly monthly subscriptions we were using.
We selected unitrends because it had everything we were looking for at the right price.
