Overall Satisfaction with UserTesting

We use User Testing to help us understand a variety of things -- workflows/usability, perception of new ideas, and goals or motivations. It's most used on the product side by researchers, but design and PMM also use it occasionally.
  • Very fast turnaround; great when I'm on a quick timeline.
  • General population; participants are less likely to be a superfan of our product and more likely to be very honest.
  • Ability to show webpages (including google slides, which has been very helpful for us), apps, or simply ask people to talk; very versatile.
  • Easier to test beta builds.
  • Can't really say; hard to track.
My questions are always answered quickly and kindly.
As with most things, I've learned a lot along the way. Small things have really improved my workflow -- like launching one test first, then watching the result and tweaking any questions that seemed slightly off. Some things are tricky; it took me a while to figure out how to add more users that fit different criteria than the initial cohort.
Love being able to reach a more general population audience, and how quickly we get results. I often use UT in conjunction with other forms of research -- perhaps I hear something in interviews or a survey, but I am not sure if I really trust it to be a trend or don't fully understand it. I can go to UT to get more targeted feedback. The same in reverse: I might start with UT and if something interesting comes up, I could take it to a survey or interviews.
It depends on how specific their participants need to be. If not too niche, then I'd definitely recommend usertesting.com.
