Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We exclusively use Microsoft 365 products for email, unified communications, and cloud storage solutions. These are the most critical systems for our business and we cannot afford to lose the data they contain. While Microsoft offers some degree of backup within Microsoft 365, it is lacking for our business needs. We need a more robust solution that is separate from Microsoft. If an issue arises with one of their services, we need to have a completely independent backup copy of all that data.

Pros and Cons

Licensing is very easy to manage; Microsoft licensing is notoriously complex
The management interface is intuitive and easy to navigate
We already use Veeam Backup and Replication for our virtual environment; it makes sense to extend that to our cloud services
Account, licensing, and technical support are generally responsive

I have had some minor issues with their flagship product, but not with this one; nothing to report here

Return on Investment

This service is definitely an integral part of our business continuity plan
It allows IT to meet our service level agreements and ticket close times

Veeam for Microsoft Office 365 Needs Assessment

I think that anyone who uses any Azure services knows they need something like this. There are various options, but Veeam put the effort in years ago to make data backup and recovery an easy process. Extending that to Microsoft cloud services is a logical next step, especially for anyone already using Veeam Backup and Replication.

Usability

As I said previously, it's a solid product. I have lots of other things to worry about. I need a solution that does not require a lot of care and feeding. Overall, I am happy with the product and the company. I would recommend this to others as a reliable, easy to use solution that works well for backing up Microsoft 365 data.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 Data Access

It can be a sensitive conversation when someone comes into your office and needs a mission critical file restored. It's even more difficult when you cannot fulfill their request. Having a solution that gives IT more confidence in our ability to take care of these instances, whether it's because of something malicious or accidental, goes a long way towards providing our employees with the peace of mind they deserve to have. They should not have to concern themselves with the technical side of things. Our job is to reassure them that we have that taken care of for them.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 Restore Flexibility

I think having those types of options are simply a basic requirement for a solution like this. I have worked with other direct competitors that did NOT have all of these features and it made restoring data more of a hassle. I was not a fan of those products and am glad I don't need to work with them anymore.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 Favorite Features

Simple integration with Azure. It is simple to set up and requires no ongoing management, as it should be. One of our goals is to move as many services to the Azure cloud as we can. This product can do this well. Restoring user data quickly. Sometimes things are time sensitive and you need a product that allows you to get your data back promptly. Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 does a good job at this.

Alternatives Considered

Backupify

Veeam is superior in multiple ways. Simpler, more cost effective licensing model. Easier to restore data to ANY supported format, including PST. (Backupify did not have PST support for years.) No account management; if I did not stay on top of things, like license management, no one would know until it was time to renew. This actually happened and cost a lot of money, which was not budgeted.

Support Rating

I think they do a good job overall. I did have an issue where we had multiple accounts, which caused confusion. I could not open a ticket from my primary account, which meant I could not request help. Phone support requires an open case, which I could not create. I think I ended up finding an email address on their website, which did get a response. Overall, once I got ahold of the right person, they resolved the issue within about 4 hours, so I was happy with the outcome.

Likelihood to Recommend

We are a small to medium sized business, so we don't have a huge team of IT staff to manage our infrastructure. That means we need solutions that are easy to implement, manage, and use as needed. Veeam is very good at this. It does not matter if you are backing up a small amount of data or a lot. It functions exactly the same way regardless. No need to worry about scaling the solution as your business grows over time.
