Likelihood to Recommend

1ShoppingCart

It's really user preference. Some people have been told by other colleagues that it's a great system to use so they want to go with that. There are other systems that do exactly the same thing. I have not found that 1ShoppingCart has any unique features that would lead me to persuade a client to use it over another one. I usually have clients look at two or three options and give feedback. Sometimes it comes down to monthly prices.

Magento has been a reliable platform that allows for a considerable selection of app or plug-in choices while also integrating with internally developed solutions. There are many who finds its structure limiting and clunky, but for commodities and part search specific industries, it fits the bill nicely. Our IT/Dev team makes good use of its organizational options but does have to spend a significant amount of time building some of our necessary functions into the platform and continually keeping them up to date with a well-structured sprint schedule.

Pros

  • Email Marketing - Easy to use templates but you can also use your custom html template.
  • Managing your list - It is easy to set up separate lists and create opt in forms for each one. It allows multiple opt in forms with customized messages for all steps of the opt in process.
  • Ecommerce - Setup of your product or service is easy. You can use buy now type buttons on the 1ShoppingCart store. Integration with your merchant account or Paypal is offered.
  • Includes an affiliate management option. This module allows you to manage an affiliate with custom links and an area to post materials for affiliates to use - such as banners.

  • Stock management (if implemented with custom fields for location).
  • Transactional emails. Really well done and easy to config.
  • Access to data and accountancy.

Cons

  • The UI needs improvement. There are other systems out there that are more intuitive.
  • Customizing/branding a shopping cart page can be a little tricky - when it should be very simple.
No photo available
  • The ability to create a page builder UI for marketing pages is non existent and for non technical users it is impossible.
  • The need for blogging/news and events is common and any/all modules for this type of content really cant compete with other platforms and usually require the installation of another platform to manage this content.

Likelihood to Renew

If I were in charge of the renewal decision I would really take a look at 1SC vs. Infusionsoft. There are many ways each are great and many ways they are different. I would look at what was best for my company and make the choice accordingly. I find that Infusionsoft has many more ways to intuitively market, segment and cultivate new leads and grow the business as a whole than 1SC currently has.

Magento is well-supported by a big development team at eBay, which not only addresses bug reports very quickly, but also is constantly working on improvements to the platform. The wealth of Magento third party modules ensures that the platform will be up to date with future changes to
Payment or ERP systems.
Security is always a concern and with the Zend framework as a foundation, Magento has had very few security-related patches since I have started to work with it

Magento offers lots of templates and themes to customize the look and feel of the store, and even optimize it for mobile phones. The have an extensive library of forms and templates.

Alternatives Considered

Again, it's the client that usually selects the system they want to use. I think 1ShoppingCart has lower monthly payment options so that makes it more appealing. Infusionsoft has a $2k payment that must be made in order to use their product

We chose Magento for our e-commerce stores vs. Drupal Commerce because of the ease to set up and the expansive list of features Magento offers. We're glad we partnered with Magento for our clients. Drupal's setup time is too costly to set up for most clients we've talked to and the security updates are too frequent.

  • Being able to upsell and cross-sell is a big bonus for us compared to previous B2B site.
