Smaller less technically staffed companies should avoid it. For mid-size companies with a serious need for a email solution, it might be worth considering if the staff involved in using the product isn't afraid of technically looking stuff. The staff that runs the servers (if it's on-premises deployment) needs to be fairly technical, and willing to dig into issues and errors that will arise.

IBM Marketing Operations

It's not a modern tool, however, the engine is strong and has all features of a project management. But today's tools are very flexible and their UI is very modern and allows end users to create fields/forms and various validations. In terms of API as well, new modern tools are very advanced.

Pros

  • Overall, the program has great features and is very flexible and easy to manage.
  • Excellent advanced email delivery that also easily integrates well with social and mobile. Also easily allows you to create custom emails for customers.
  • There are multiple ways to achieve the same results - so if one tool doesn't work, you aren't stuck and have other options of getting the same end result.

  • The tactic creation workflow inside Marketing Operations is really strong and flexible
  • Integration of Marketing Operations with IBM Campaign is one good area
  • Integration with IBM Interact is strong area

Cons

  • There's always room for improvement with the interface. The UI is amazing and works very well, but, as a designer, stuff like this is always a work in progress.
  • A little slow to load – sometimes the program takes a while to start up. I have a high-end Mac, and I'm sure it's not my machine that's the problem.
  • The program crashes every once in a while. It'll just freeze up. Not sure why.

  • The User Interface is one of the areas where a lot of work is required
  • Debugging Marketing Operations is very tough, the logs don't provide enough information. Basic features like who updated the record and at what time is lacking
  • The tool should open up more configuration changes in hands of users. You can't even put custom system validations if you want

Once you go for Neolane you are a bit stuck with it, so we will most likely stay with Neolane. Cost of investment and training are the main factors at work here. We havesimply have invested too much in the product to stop using it after 2 years.That said, my score of 8 does not imply that the product is worthy of getting an 8 but reflects our willingness to renew.Given that upgrading to a new version will cost again a substantial sum, we most likely will keep using the current version we are on which is 6X.

I would say that generally the knowledge of the support team we work with is good, great even.I can't say that they seem to be very interested or involved in trying to make the product work best for us.They do what needs to be done, and they do it well - but not really going the extra mile.

Alternatives Considered

Look, Adobe Campaign is the best program to use for your online media marketing. Adobe understands what online marketers and social media strategists need, and deliver the proper tools necessary for them to be successful. I swear by Adobe, they've earned my trust and I will continue to use their programs throughout my career. Everything else is just...noise. Until I find a program with better customer service than Adobe, I will always be a fanboy.
