Branch well suited: Branch links are perfecting for embedding into our email service provider (SendGrid), paid media channels (Facebook, Google, ASA), organic media (Instagram, Facebook, content marketing, referral) and push notification platform (OneSignal) to be able to evaluate actions taken from users that clicked on those branch links. No matter the data from these links, they are accurate and are easily exported to our database and CRM to determine ROI, and find weak points in our major funnels.

Twilio is the go-to platform for developers needing to add phone services in their online services. With the merger with sendgrid and the extensions to Whatsapp and other channels, Twilio is becoming the standard vendor to provide all necessary complex communication technical services to a developer audience. Getting started is fast and easy with tons of code examples and exhaustive documentation.

  • Click tracking: it integrated well with Facebook, Google, Clevertap, product, etc. to allow multiple stakeholders to use this one platform for tracking.
  • Sale attribution: it has a robust fraud detection and event deduplication in place to attribute sales correctly.
  • Smart URL: it offers different deeplinks to support basic user platforms, thus making the URL behavior smart and personalized for users.
  • Referrals: it's a ready-made platform to easily launch your refer and earn program, with all checks of fraud detection in place.
  • Social sharing: it offers various goats and cards for how a link will appear on various social media channels if shared, which is particularly helpful for marketing teams.

  • Multiplayers redirection is important feature. In our marketing process for [our] Ace Tutor app https://www.acetutor.io, we have a referral reward campaign for which we want to aggregate clicks from lower level links to higher level links. For example, we created unique Branch Links for 10 marketing interns, and each intern wanted to create Branch Links for their own 10 delegates, the clicks of the Branch Links from these delegates would be automatically rolled up to the right intern's Branch Link, so we can make payment following the aggregation paths. Currently, Branch Links do not support this kind of multiplayer or multi-layer redirections.

Twilio

  • Authy does not support the "push button" multi-factor authentication from your application's native apps. This means if you want to use Authy, you still need to use TOTP based codes.
  • Not really a shortcoming of Authy, but it does nothing to help with multi-factor authentication using text messages - those are still sent to your platform's messaging app.
  • Authy doesn't always display how much time is left before your current token expires, making it difficult to know how much time you have left to enter the current code.

Twilio has well documented APIs and examples. There are several tutorials, videos and Q&As regarding their services. So, usability is very good. I must say that advanced knowledge of telephony, API/Programming and error-handling is essential to make good use of Twilio. It's not just plug-and-play unless you are integrated with a system that has all of the programming built for it.

I have not had to communicate with Twilio support in the last 3 years but my past experience with them has been very positive. They replied to my previous requests promptly and kept me well informed to resolve my inquiries.With their documentation that's available, I hardly imagine why anyone would need to contact support since it's all there in a concise and easy to understand format. It would probably take you longer to type out a support ticket than to just open their doc websites.

Branch

Branch is a much lighter solution largely targeted to attribution and deep links that can be available at no cost for the basic service. Adjust is much heaver and supports custom events but has a significant cost to consider so when optimising the costs vs income for the smaller apps, branch was the ideal solution to minimise costs and app footprint therefore maximising the revenue.

Twilio

To be honest, I don't know of any Twilio SMS competitors that have the robust transactional SMS that Twilio SMS has. I know of a few marketing SMS platforms such as Textedly but that's more of an email blast (or SMS blast) to your list then something targeted based on user action inside our application that Twilio SMS can provide. On top of that, in Twilio SMS I can push them through my own segmentation and sequences programmatically to even make the marketing SMS's more targetted compared to some of the pure blast competitors.

  • Twilio WebRTC allowed us to move a bulk of our communication to the cloud, giving us a lot of visibility on how we were communicating with our customers.
  • It also gave us analytics on how much time users spent on communicating with each other over calls and helped us build features around it.
  • Twilio became the center of all communication on our platform. From chat messages to phone calls, it powered everything.
