Likelihood to Recommend In the past, I was a Partner at BMC Software, having contact with many national and international clients; knowing different ways of working in each of these clients that acquired Control-M or migrated from another WLA to BMC, I saw that it is the most adaptable to the different ways of working of each company. Today, I work as a BMC Software client as the administrator and see all the possibilities that can be done, having known many ways of exploiting Control-M in different companies. That is why I highly recommend Control-M as the best way to integrate, unify, and automate different applications, services, and products in one place.
Read full review Informatica Cloud is a great tool for use when data must be formatted consistently. Once configured, it is very robust and reliable. It is also well-suited for an organization without a robust IT staff to maintain a full server infrastructure. It offers a cost-effective approach to high-quality data integration for even the largest organizations. Organizations without staff experienced in data analytics may find it challenging to take advantage of the more complex results of this tool.
Read full review Pros Control-M provides a single, centralized interface for monitoring and managing all batch processes in the organization. Nothing is hidden or left unattended in a timely manner. The proper use of the BIM component has allowed the change of paradigm in the operation, adopting a proactive management instead of the typical reactive management in the event of production failures. The use of Forecast and production simulations allows you to identify bottlenecks and focus first on managing those failures that have the greatest impact on production SLAs. Control-M/Change Manager has arrived to shorten development cycles from requirements gathering to production testing. It has been a utility that monetizes the development of Jobs meshes. The GUI is capable of efficiently handling more than 80,000 jobs per day. This is certainly a challenge in designing a good user experience. I don't know if there is a reasonable limit to this. One of my clients runs more than 80,000 Jobs daily and the GUI remains smooth all the time. Job-As-Code is a DevOps accelerator that has just begun to be adopted. Its implementation will make workload management even more cost-effective. Read full review Once the secure connection is established it’s quite easy to operate and create new jobs. The controls are simple, and we appreciate the fact there are not a lot of complex fine-tunings required. Navigation is also easy, and we enjoy the ability to open multiple tabs in the browser to work on multiple projects. The monitoring functionality works well to help track the progress of the jobs, again, without too much complication. In a fast dev environment, speed is essential and we quickly seeing the status/progress of jobs as well as any errors if the jobs fail helps us maintain speed. The web interface is a lot easier to interact with than the client/on-prem version. Putting much of the heavy lifting of interacting with the tool onto the shoulders of the browser makes it easier to keep multiple sessions open and get in/out quickly without having to VPN into the office. Read full review Cons More sophisticated root cause analysis tools would help identify and address job failures more efficiently. The ability to create custom reports tailored to specific business needs would provide greater flexibility. Expanding the API capabilities would allow deeper integration with other systems and tools. Ensuring that Control-M can handle increasing workloads and data volumes without performance degradation is crucial. Read full review The User Interface can be a bit difficult to get in initial stages. Error messages are hard to understand which sometimes takes a lot of time for the resolution Cannot Implement complex SQL queries which should be fixed in future release. Read full review Likelihood to Renew Our batch and batch release mechanisms are now closely aligned with Control-M. We have invested significantly in the product and spent many man-hours developing the batch. We could migrate to slightly cheaper products but that would require projects with large overheads and Control-M is recognized as the most stable solution available. Moreover, BMC are actively developing it (which is not the case with schedulers from some other software providers) and are often the first with innovations and integrations with new platforms. Although Control-M is directly comparable with competing products, we now have substantial in-house Control-M knowledge and migration away from it would cause issues.
Read full review Usability Since it is GUI-based, it is not hard to use, although all new programs have a learning curve. The color scheme is easy to use to find the status of different
Batch jobs. The check-in and check-out feature of job definitions is easy to use and avoids problems with users trying to use the same resource at the same time.

Read full review Implementation Rating As HA we have depend on the external DB, why don't we have HA feasibility with embedded DB. As with external DB, there are performance issues and fine tuning the DB. As if its embedded DB, Control-M it self take care of the functionality.

IBM Workload Automation isn't compatible with all of our project's operating systems, we've decided to switch to using Control-C instead. Second, the provider provides top-notch customer service in the event of an emergency. Control-M is a lightweight program that places few demands on the server's resources.
Read full review First, the wizard is easy to use making the learning curve for simple ETL tasks nice. Second, since Informatica is mature there are a good variety of connectors available. Finally, we have driven some fairly complex ETL solutions using only the cloud.
