Likelihood to Recommend

D&B Credit

D&B Credit is amazing for any organization that wants to protect their bottom line from trade risk. It is very useful for assessing total exposure across an entire corporate organization and averting high risk scenarios. The best parts of the report are the trade payment history and corporate links. I would probably avoid the product if most of the business that a company conducts is outside of the USA since the foreign reports don't contain much detail. All in all, it is the best tool to use in a credit underwriting and credit line setting of a credit risk department.

It's most appropriate when properly set up by someone with a deep knowledge of PNL/Forecasting. It's inappropriate for companies with poorly structured/inconsistently maintained financial statements.

Pros

D&B Credit

  • The data accuracy was the best out of all the tools we used
  • Detail of information of companies was impressive
  • Access to contacts & info of each contact

LivePlan

  • Great for startups that are still working on their idea.
  • Preparing for pitching and presenting.
  • People don't need business knowledge in order to write a professional business plan, everything is explained in details.
  • Simplicity.

Cons

D&B Credit

  • It needs to figure out why the max credit limits come in, on average, 3-4 times a realistic number; we dropped it for this one reason, since we use it to set realistic credit limits. D&B couldn't seem to get this fixed so we went back to DNBI
  • For the client payment experiences it does not show the total; this is important to me because it gives credibility to the recommended credit limit
  • Something is wrong with the calculation for recommended credit limit

  • UX: It's beyond time for an overhaul, especially on mobile. It can make the app seem dated.
  • The accounting software integration has been prone to break and need to be re-setup, though that seems to have improved.

Alternatives Considered

D&B Credit

D&B Credit is more robust than Experian. Experian provided reports we found to sometimes be inaccurate based on what we knew. DNBI is going to sunset, but its reports were less useful. Smaller companies will do credit applications, but larger companies do not. Getting the daily news and event alerts is useful.

We did not really find a similar solution. All other solutions are focused on project management, [there's] nothing on generating a business plan. There is nothing on this level that helps people without any business experience write the plan. They have samples, instructions what to write where, how to prepare for pitching, and generate dashboards. Nothing in this market gets anywhere close to this solution.

Return on Investment

D&B Credit

  • We use it to pass audits and remain SOX compliant. As far as I know, we have not failed any yet.
  • It has helped avoid high risk customers to minimize write-offs and losses.
  • It is a bit expensive, but 100% helps me do my job faster and more efficiently.

  • For the price, it's worth it for 2 main reasons. Knowing what's going on throughout the year (relative to goals/prior periods), and seeing precisely where financial issues are off track.
