Enriched a significant amount of account data where there was very little to start with -- really helps you extract value from your data and find gaps you didn't even know was there. Also allows ongoing data management to ensure that you don't keep building gaps over time -- you only need to educate people on how to use it and assuming you have seats you can just standardize the research and creation of accounts.

PersistIQ

PersistIQ is well suited for outbound marketing. It's great for setting up sales and marketing campaigns to new and prospective clients. The fact that PersistIQ emails are basic (they look like normal personal emails) and easy to personalize, makes the whole process feel more genuine than, say, MailChimp.PersistIQ won't replace a bulk emailing tool or CRM. It serves a different purpose than, for example, Marketo or MailChimp, two products we also use

  • Hoover's has good information architecture in one sense that allowed you to keep track of where you have looked and also add anticipatory links for things you might like to research or know.
  • It was great for finding a more complete picture of the companies history.
  • It was helpful for piecing together contact information for people you may not have known worked there.

  • Integrates well with tools that work with LinkedIn Sales Navigator to scrap lead emails.
  • Makes it easy to manage large-scale cold email campaigns with 3+ steps.
  • When a prospect replies to an email, it doesn't send them any of the automated emails which allow me to follow-up with those warm leads correctly.

Cons

D&B Hoovers

  • Much of the data on this platform is stale or inaccurate when it comes to identifying company contacts. We determined that there is about a 70% accuracy in any given data set. This is in stark contrast to the 90% or better that the D&B sales rep sold us on.
  • Customer service is terrible here when you have any kind of complaint. In our experience, they escalated our issue (poor data quality and a request for a refund or termination of our contract) to a manager who never bothered to return any emails or calls.
  • You pay (heavily) for exporting data outside of their system. If you're not able or willing to pay for exports, the interface they have for just viewing the data in grid format is clunky and inefficient.

Hoover's just isn't compelling for the types of information they provide and the pricing model. But again, this is from the very limited perspective of a below entry level analyst who is just finishing their studies. It is probable that for some segments of industry, Hoover's has vast wealth of pertinent information. For example, when looking into agricultural industries for a consulting firm, I did not save any time with their service because information on factory locations and assets was scant. Using Google earth to view the square footage of the facilities to estimate assets was often more helpful.

They are terrific at giving instruction/webinars. I am able to call, directly, to an individual and talk to that person. I'm not talking to a robot. They give personal service which is really special.

Alternatives Considered

D&B Hoovers

D&B stacks up but not very high. ZoomInfo is in the lead for newer-looking technology and data quality. Sales Navigator is a powerhouse in the space and probably has the whole package that I'd want during prospecting except for the business code. Crunchbase has newer information and industry trends that are hard to beat. Hopefully D&B can modernize to stack up and make a more appealing UI/UX.

We decided on PersistIQ because it was cheaper than the incumbents and as we were starting we wanted to see if this would be helpful or relevant to us. We later discovered Apollo.io and we might switch to them as they are also cheap and look better, but we might also get back to manual emailing and Linkedin connecting.

  • This software has paid for itself three times over in the first sale made by using their b2b leads.
  • This software is the difference between casually growing your business and scaling at a rate that is not generally thought to be possible. Of coarse you still have to put in the effort to make the sales but the accuracy of the leads saves time and money.
  • This software gives filtered results when searching for a target prospect or market and will provide leads that other software will not have in their database. This is the most elite b2b lead generation software on the market, period.
