Scale HC3 is being used across the entire organization for all our server needs. It is housing all our VMs as well as all of our network storage. It has solved the issues with VMWare licensing, an outdated SAN as well as multiple host servers required to properly run a VMWare environment.
  • The best thing about Scale is its simplicity. I used a VMWare solution for the past 5 years and never really felt like I had a grip on how to fully use it. I've had Scale in place for less than 6 months and am so confident in it, I feel as though I could almost train someone else on how to use it.
  • Scale's technical support is second to none. I've had a couple of issues with it and everyone I've spoken with is knowledgeable, friendly and eager to help resolve any issue.
  • With previous solutions, updating firmware is a large endeavor compared to Scale. Scale actually recommends doing it during production time instead of scheduling downtime during evenings or weekends. It makes managing everything easier without me having to come into work on my off time.
  • As with everything, I wish the price was a bit cheaper but by comparison to others but it's not bad when compared to similar solutions.
  • Not that it was needed in my case but the option to have a Scale engineer on site for setup might be nice for some instances.
  • The scheduling of the setup calls and training could be explained a little better and even possibly a quick overview of how to use the scheduling portion of the customer portal.
Scale definitely has a market where it fits and is a great solution (small to medium-sized businesses). Very large organizations may be better suited to a different solution. For the market that Scale fits into, it really is a perfect solution. I had compared Scale to Nutanix and while Nutanix had some additional features, I couldn't justify the additional costs. However, a large organization may find that additional feature set very useful and worth the additional costs.
They are second to none in terms of technical support. In all my time in IT, I've used a lot of different vendors' technical support and I've never had one that I would rate higher than Scale. Responsiveness, knowledge, and willingness to help until they know the issue is resolved are all aspects that Scale has demonstrated on every instance.
We run everything on our Scale solution. This includes a SQL server for our ERP software, multiple licensing applications as well as file servers and domain controllers. I even have some desktops set up for VPN purposes. Everything works flawlessly. I can't imagine a scenario where Scale wouldn't meet our needs.
  • Considering the short time I've had Scale, it's hard to speak to ROI but before purchasing we did compare costs of our previous solution in terms of licensing costs and future hardware costs and Scale was the less expensive option.
  • From purely a power consumption perspective, the Scale solution is definitely a cost saving feature. I find myself with additional circuits that aren't needed any longer in my server room.
  • Even in the short time I've had Scale in place, I can already tell that the uptime is better than with our previous solution.
Scale replaced a VMWare solution. We compared Scale against a new VMWare solution as well as against a Nutanix hyper-converged solution. After looking at the costs, features, support, and hardware, Scale was the easy choice for our business. It fit every need we had and after 6 months of having it in place, I have no regrets with our decision.
It's one of the best solutions I've ever implemented. Over the time I've had it, support has been incredible and great new features have been added to make the product even better.
There have been a few occasions I've needed to call support. One time in particular, one of the hard drives died. I contacted support and had a replacement the next day and in the process no data was close to being lost due to their platform's duplication methods.

I am the only one using it as I'm the only IT person at the company.

I'm the only one who supports it however it's such a great solution that anyone with basic computer knowledge could do it.

After years of attending IT conferences, I've gained a wide net of other IT professionals. I bake their opinions and Scale was a highly recommended product.
Wouldn't change a thing. I evaluated a couple different products, weighed their value against one another and I still believe I made the best choice

We maintain our support contact with them. I don't believe there is an option for any other support but the support I do very is amazing and can't imagine more.

There has been twice where the email alerts weren't working and they figured out the issue (an issue with Office 365 hosted email servers) to get it resolved quickly.

[It's being used] To host most corporate servers including AD, file, print, CCTV and app servers.
  • Ease of use
  • Superb value compared to traditional competitors
  • The time between order and delivery seems slow.
If you need to consolidate 4 or more servers, I don't know of a better way to do it currently. We currently have 10 VMs and I would dread doing it the old-fashioned way now. VMWare and its ilk seem clunky and overbearing in comparison now.
Good pre-sale support. We had excellent initial setup support. It's a good knowledge base, but I've have seen better. Implementation of Server 2016 was a bit slow though.
We currently host: - Active Directory - File Servers - Print Servers - Security Camera system & storage - Stadium concession systems (critical game-day system) - Stadium 50-50 system (critical game-day system). Our 50-50's are a huge deal in this part of the world.
  • Hewlett Packard
Impressive greater value for similar sized system
General ease of use.
The whole business in one way or another.

IT - Virtual system experience helps, but I wouldn't say its necessary.

  • Stadium Concession system
  • Satdium 50-50 draw system
  • We are currently testing a new Windows 2016 domain setup
  • I hope to one day host the Football Operations Video services on the same system. Football Coaches use a dedicated system currently.
Great value, and ease of use.
  • Creating a new VM
  • Adding OS Media
  • Creating VM snapshots
  • I wish I could change the size of disk volumes easily.

We use the Scale Computing HC3 platform across our whole organization. With its ease of use, we are able to obtain 99.9% uptime as well as a full DR site with 100% of our data. It solves the need by not requiring complicated switching equipment, advanced networks, etc. All of the systems are essentially self-contained and require near 0 maintenance.
  • DR - Scale does DR really well. With a few clicks, you can have a (or more) multiple DR sites.
  • Ease of use - The system is extremely easy to use through it's GUI. With a few clicks, you're able to spin a VM up and have it set up snapshots and replication to other sites.
  • Ability to share or use dynamic memory.
Scale Computing HC3 is well suited in any environment that requires a simple, cost-effective and easy to use hyper-converged system that "just works".
Support has always been top-notch. I haven't called in many times. But the few times I have, they have always been more than helpful and super nice. Doesn't matter the day or time either... I've called them at 2 pm and 2 am. The same great service.
We run our entire environment on the HC3 system. Primary & Backup domain controllers, application servers, file servers and most importantly our terminal servers. I have been blown away by the ease of use, performance and redundancy with the system.
  • To be honest - It's still a bit early to accurately tell our ROI -- But so far, we are happy.
For us, the ease of use, affordability and support from Scale are the main reasons we chose to go with them.
The web GUI for the system is extremely easy to use and intuitive.
  • Deploying new VMs
  • Some back-end changes or console configuration changes.
