Overall Satisfaction with Appian

Appian support is friendly, knowledgeable and available. The only reason I don't give it a 10 is because we have had one or two minor production outages where they took longer than 30 minutes to respond.
Appian is being used across our organization as a workflow and CRM platform.
  • Modern, customizable UI. The look and feel matches what you'll see in the most popular web apps. Therefore users will already be comfortable with the system.
  • Produce native mobile apps without requiring iOS or Android knowledge
  • Quarterly product releases provide new functionality and enhanced performance and stability.
  • Appian does not work as well as a downstream product. It's web APIs are growing but still immature
  • Appian relies on a proprietary in-memory "k" database for some data storage.
  • Appian developers are rare and can be expensive as both FTEs and consultants.
  • Appian has provided a structured workflow where important work can be tracked and monitored.
Appian lacks the native MS support that SharePoint provides and it is easier to find .NET developers. But overall Appian is a better and more focused framework specializing in workflow and custom apps. Their mobile capability is also a differentiator

Small apps with quick time to market are suitable for Appian. Additionally any application where mobile capability is required is a good fit for Appian.

Very large applications with multiple integration points and customizations are not a good fit.
