Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Avalara to file our Use and Sales tax - that is what I use it for anyway. As far as I know, it is being used by at least one department, possibly two. It helps us calculate sales and use tax that we are supposed to be paying. It is a little tricky because we are an international company and calculating tax can be really hard.

I wasn't involved in the integration of Avalara.

Usability

It is pretty useable - the UI is good but not great. The main negative here is the amount of server lag when it comes to uploading sales and use tax reports for the month. It can sometimes take hours to get results back for a single digit row workbook. That is really frustrating but can be avoided by uploading earlier.

Additional Capabilities

Avalara Returns

We use Avalara returns every month. We approve the returns and then use the returns as detail for our payment to Avalara. That is the only time that we use the returns feature though.

Likelihood to Recommend

Avalara is great for a company that does business in multiple states for filing sales and use tax. It is particularly good for companies that have a lot of locations (brick and mortar). We have over 400 locations worldwide so it is a bit hard to keep track of.
