Overall Satisfaction with Avalara AvaTax
We use for all customer billing. It is integrated with NetSuite. When we provide customer's quotes/estimates, sales tax is estimated via the AvaTax integration. When we produce an invoice, tax is calculated. AvaTax files our sales tax returns.
I compare it to what ADP does for payroll taxes. It is a software that lets us just do our jobs, we don't have to be responsible for keeping up to date on tax rate changes, etc., and our sales tax returns are filed for us.

- Once it's up and running, it's pretty much on auto pilot.
- It decreases the issues I have to think of related to sales tax down to (are we filing in the correct states, and are our SKUs mapped correctly.
- Filing ~18 sales tax returns is not a monumental task on a monthly basis.
- Implementation when we first became a customer. I am partly responsible for this because I thought we wanted to do most of it ourselves, but looking back, we could have used more leadership throughout the implementation.
- Pricing seems high.
- Pricing can be confusing when estimates count towards a fraction of a transaction. I do like how they changed so transactions for states where we don't have Nexus turned on no longer count as transactions.
- About 20 hours a month of staff time saved.
- Peace of mind that we aren't going to have a $100,000+ tax bill 6 years down the road because we failed to tax one SKU properly.
- I have not had to add additional staff as we have expanded into multiple states.

There have been several issues we have had to work through, but once it's up and running, it has been adequate.
We have definitely benefited from managed return filings. Much of the time savings has been through this function. We don't have that many customers that have exemption certificates so we are not currently utilizing the exemption certificate management.
None. AvaTax was recommended by our contract CFO, so it was the only product that I evaluated. It met our needs, price was somewhat within reason, and we have been happy since.
