Overall Satisfaction with Catchpoint
We use Catchpoint to keep monitoring the performance of specific customers. In case of bad performance, we leverage the product to do a deeper analysis of what causes a potential problem. Moreover, the product is used to collect data on the competitors of a specific customer in order to do a comparison of the performance
- Number of available nodes for running the probes
- Waterfall - possibility to go in details of a specific test
- Impossibile to generate automatic report with a comparison with the previous period
- Impossibile to aggregate the data of multiple tests. If I run a test for 1 week, I would like to have the "global waterfall", instead, for understanding more, I have to go test by test, this is time-consuming
- Being "immediately" informed of a down of the service (this, obviously, is related to the frequency of the probes)
- Improving the performance of the pages. Thanks to the monitoring of the pages, we can quickly understand if there are changes in performance.
The setup is easy but you need to follow it in the first phase just to see if the tests are properly running (some sites block requests coming from the synthetic tools). When the setup is ready, 1 week is enough for having enough data. Having the data, you can start the analysis (just another couple of days)
For the RUM, there is no comparison. Blue Triangle and MPulse are much better than Catchpoint. Regarding the synthetic part, Catchpoint is better than Blue Triangle for the number of nodes available, Blue Triangle has the advantage to allow the aggregation of the data (I run a test for 1 week, and I am able to see immediately the time average for each resource loaded in the test). Blue Triangle has also specific views for a competitive scenario where you can compare your test with the data of your customer.

Evaluating Catchpoint and Competitors
- Price
- Product Features
- Product Usability
The features of the product are key for deciding to purchase Catchpoint. In my case, I need a product for executing synthetic tests in order to collect data for analyzing the performance of specific websites, this was the main target so I evaluated which kind of features the product has for helping me to satisfy my need.
I will not change the selection process even if I will add an additional step: I will evaluate better also the RUM part since, now, in the market there are products doing a rich set of features for the RUM and having also the synthetic part (even if the number of the available nodes is not comparable with Catchpoint and, not so many Catchpoint's competitors give the possibility to run probes in China)
