Overall Satisfaction with Conga CPQ

Red Hat uses Conga CPQ for both Direct and Indirect Sales products and services.
  • Conga CPQ is extremely configurable. One can support almost any pricing model.
  • The screens for Conga CPQ look very clean, and it is a user friendly interface.
  • Our number one complaint with Conga CPQ has been speed. In my experience, Conga CPQ is extremely slow, especially for large orders.
  • In my opinion, the configuration methods of Conga CPQ are outdated and error-prone. One literally puts configurations into string-based custom settings, including the API field names. This often leads to deployment issues and run-time configuration errors.
  • In my experience, Conga CPQ is everything but simple to develop. You need things like a 12-step pricing callback to support custom pricing.
  • In my experience, Conga CPQ support is not responsive.
  • When it comes time to lock in a renewal contract for Conga CPQ, in my experience, they delay engagement, so you are truly behind the 8 ball when it comes time to decide if you are going to continue with Conga CPQ.
  • Conga CPQ was definitely much better than our previous quoting solution. It allow us to build better approval processes, pricing models, etc.
  • Adopting Conga CPQ forced Red Hat to take a more standard approach to CPQ and CLM. Reducing our future vendor lock issues.
  • Our NAT solution had to be almost completely custom, as well as we required complex pricing callbacks to do simple things like one-time discounts.
  • We bill per-diem with leap days excluded from the price calculations. Conga CPQ only supports monthly and yearly billing models. So we quote for February and it would charge the same rate as March. This is the number one thing that introduced complexity. And 6 years later, nothing improved on the Conga side.
  • In my opinion, it would be virtually impossible to implement Conga CPQ without an army of consultants. It is that complicated. And, I feel, even the consultants won't know important details, like formula fields slow down Conga CPQ by an order of magnitude.
Conga CPQ definitely saved us time and money over our previous solution. It is just not the best solution out there for our business needs.
Very few tickets were related to quote accuracy. We reconcile to the penny though, so the accuracy was mostly a result of our complex pricing callbacks, not Conga CPQ itself.
It has been too long for me to remember all the various CPQ products we evaluated. But our short list came down to Salesforce CPQ and and Conga CPQ. At the time, we considered them both pretty close to equivalent solutions for meeting our needs, so negotiation mainly came down to price of the solution, and estimates to implement.

Now that we are migrating to Lightning, the balance has tipped very strongly in Salesforce CPQ's favour.

Do you think Conga CPQ delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Conga CPQ's feature set?

Yes

Did Conga CPQ live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of Conga CPQ go as expected?

No

Would you buy Conga CPQ again?

No

I think the case when I would recommend Conga CPQ is in a legacy org. In that case, the older style and configuration might be more useful, and you are less likely to find yourself forced to upgrade to lightning.

If you are already using lightning, or migrating to lightning, then I would only recommend Conga CPQ if the alternative does not support the features you need.
