Overall Satisfaction with Duo Security

We use it for multi-factor authentication for our critical systems. It's used across the organization for both full time employees as well as contractors, and even in some cases, customers. It helps us mitigate potential compromise issues with user names and passwords, and adds an additional layer of security. Additionally, [there is a] pretty low impact to users and productivity.
  • It's very responsive/quick. The authentication prompt on your phone comes up within a second, and after authenticating (approving) access is granted almost immediately.
  • The user interface on the phone is straightforward and easy.
  • Installation isn't very complex, though we had a few minor issues.
  • Installation on the phone has run into a few issues, but nothing we couldn't fix by a re-install or a quick call to support.
  • More native application integrations would be good. Though they have quite a few today (SFDC, MSFT, etc...).
  • A bit easier to integrate into custom applications, though some of our apps are pretty old.
  • Really positive on mitigating hacked usernames/passwords. The additional layer is very helpful
  • In terms of cost, it's not terribly expensive, and they will negotiate should you have a large number of users (over 500).
  • Simple system to manage and maintain - no real issues there.
We looked at Okta, and Okta is a great solution, but much larger in scope than what we needed. When we start our journey to identify/access management we will definitely consider them.

Microsoft was useful too, and minimal cost. It didn't seem to have as much support from other vendors, nor was as straightforward as Duo Security.
I can't think of an area where it wouldn't be well suited, except for automated or services related use cases. It's really simple to use once installed, and very quick. Also we have only had one outage in the past two years, which lasted about 75 minutes. We were able to bypass Duo Security for that time being.
