Overall Satisfaction with Dynatrace

Dynatrace OneAgent is used for deep dive analysis of performance of the OpenShift environment. We are still using Appmon on traditional products as it works great. Dynatrace helps us identify performance and stability issues in complex environments. We will roll out Dynatrace in 2020 to the rest of the organization.
  • Ease of Installation
  • Level of Diagnostic details and technology coverage
  • Missing functionality from Appmon
  • Chat product support is not working well
  • It enabled rollout of new products in OC environment
  • We were able to identify performance issues in development
Dynatrace is significantly better for multiple reasons: Ease of install, SaaS and Managed options availability, and level of application code level details. AppDynamics did not have a single agent and it is more cumbersome to use. New Relic only supports SaaS deployments. We were Appmon users, so the choice was easy.
I have had several issues with chat support being inadequate. Answers are not complete and they do not always understand the context. I had to call my rep and get engineering contact to help us out. As we were doing cloud deployment, settings and configuration from a security perspective were not very obvious. In my opinion this is a big issue that must be addressed. I talked to other companies using Dynatrace and found that I am not alone.

Do you think Dynatrace delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Dynatrace's feature set?

No

Did Dynatrace live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Dynatrace go as expected?

No

Would you buy Dynatrace again?

Yes

We found that for cloud environments with micro services and container based deployments, Dynatrace shines as it provides details for both infrastructure and applications. Most tools just do one. Dynatrace is not very helpful on databases. We have not used it on mainframes, as there are existing tools that work well.
