In my experience, deceptive billing practices, difficult to change service

Overall Satisfaction with Expensify

We used Expensify to track, organize and approve our expenses related to clients and employees, and to create expense reports for clients.
  • The approval flows
  • The report exports
  • Streamlining function between addons/modules.
  • Receipt capture/uploading is sometimes buggy.
  • Account management can be buggy, non-descript error messages are commonplace when trying to make changes or update information.
  • Support is a Teams-like chat interface that is bot-monitored. Takes time to get in touch with live help.
  • In my opinion, Support is deceptive and non-transparent regarding options related to billing.
  • Following the setup, it didn't meet all of our needs, so we were forced to look for a new solution
  • Support was onerous to navigate when you needed a live agent
  • I felt their business practices were deceptive and irresponsible
Expensify did not meet our needs overall, the receipt scanning/uploading function was buggy and that was a core component of what we need for our travelling team. We tried Sage's AutoEntry since and that worked very well, but Sage didn't have the level of inventory management, timesheet capability, and client/project expense allocation and reporting features that we wanted in an all-in-one solution. We've since moved to QuickBooks Online just a few weeks ago, though we've had a good experience so far.

It was very difficult to cancel service when we switched to an all-in-one accounting solution that included the expense features we needed. I tried to close our account through the settings and received an error message. Connecting with support was a bit of a task, but when I did, they let me know that I couldn't cancel until the annual term was up, understandable. I asked them at that time, specifically, "So, must I wait until the annual term is over to close the account and cancel billing; is there a way I can set it to auto-close when the subscription expires?" They replied that I would need to wait until the term was over to cancel and did not mention any other options.
I tried, when the term was up, 8 months later, to cancel and received the same error message. I connected with support, which again was somewhat of an onerous process. We had some back and fourth and, when the service was able to be cancelled, I received a message that I would be billed for the remainder of the month. This cancellation had already gone on for 2 mos. past the subscription term and I was billed at the full rate over that time as well.
I asked if there was any way I could be reimbursed for time past the subscription end and was told there was not because I should have requested that the service not auto-renew, which is ridiculous because it didn't auto-renew. I had turned off the auto-renew toggle in the account management; that was why it had defaulted to the month-to-month rate while we were troubleshooting the cancellation process.
I mentioned that I had not been told that was an option when I had originally requested the cancellation, even though I had asked specifically if it was possible. They maintained that there would be no reimbursement and the cancellation invoice and well as the two months of charges past the subscription end-date would apply.
