Overall Satisfaction with InVision Freehand

From a "ho-hum, what are they doing" product to a "hot-damn, how can I live without this experience?" InVision Freehand took me by surprise. I started using InVision Freehand two years ago, and I found it clumsy and chose not to include it in our product team's design practice. Over the past year, things have changed. Now, we use InVision Freehand to elevate our wireframes, interaction mapping, and team collaboration. By integrating Jira, Adobe, and Google Workspace, we have a platform that provides centralized design research, prototyping, content creation, collaboration, and meaningful context in one place, on one board! We're excited about the upcoming features in Freehand and can't wait to bring our entire team into the fold.
  • Connects the dots between research and prototypes
  • Allows team collaboration and review of customer research
  • Seamless presentations of Frames and the detailed work contained in them
  • Adding rulers to the screen to help determine the scale of the art
  • A way to toggle the view to show/hide spec details
  • Custom colors and fine control over opacity
  • Being able to add Google Docs, Jira issues, and wireframes together in one space
  • Presentation mode makes it easy for teams to follow a design flow
  • Video collaboration when it is available
  • The return on investment is tremendous.
  • Speed to market; from ideation to fully rendered designs, spec'd and ready for development.
  • For non-technical team members, Freehand seems to be a scary place.
I have used Zeplin in the past, and Freehand is by far faster and has a simpler UI. The fact that Freehand is married to the rest of the InVision suite of services makes it a match made in heaven. I have found Freehand's thoughtful progression toward a holistic design service tool, a more elegant, feature-rich, product offering.

Would you buy Freehand by InVision again?

InVision Freehand works well at the early stages of design. Research, wireframing, interaction mapping, and information architecture fit nicely with the current features and tools. It is still challenging to integrate InVision Cloud prototypes in a user-friendly fashion.
