Overall Satisfaction with Marketo

There are many features of Marketo that are incredible. I have also used Pardot marketing automation, and it far outweighs Pardot. However, Marketo does not come cheap and there is quite a large learning curve. It is best utilized with Salesforce CRM. Syncing to other CRM options can be tedious and may require a 3rd party widget or additional software to communicate. A couple of things to note - Marketo's out-of-the-box analytics package leaves a lot to be desired. There are also a lot of add-on options that may not work without purchasing other add-ons. I would recommend the baseline package with Sales Insight. Sales Insight allows you to score prospects and customers as well as offer your sales team email templates that they can use, customize, send, and track through Outlook or Gmail. Some of the additional packages they offer are not worth the investment. Be sure to ask a lot of questions and get full demos of how it will work with your website/CRM before purchasing.
  • Web forms
  • Webinars and event registration and email automation
  • Nurture / Drip campaigns
  • Triggered alert emails
  • Analytics
  • Email customization (Marketo uses it's own html tags and requires someone with coding knowledge to truly customize)
  • Communication / data transfer with a CRM other than Salesforce
  • Upsell
  • Cross-Sell
  • Lead Management
  • Prospecting / New Business
Reach new audiences, manage leads, attribute lead source to prospects more easily
I used Pardot a little over 3 years ago, so maybe it has improved by now, but Pardot was pretty limited to embedded web forms, email sends, and nurture campaigns. Creating multi-step nurture campaigns in Pardot was tedious. Marketo has many more features including webinar/event integrations. While the learning curve is much steeper than the learning curve for Pardot, the functionality and features available in Marketo reign supreme.
