Overall Satisfaction with MindManager

MindManager is primarily used by IT to outline processes and steps. It helps visual people understand what we are doing.

  • Works well with MS project
  • Lack of integration with MS Teams or Slack
  • Not very useful for KanBan
  • Limited templates compared with other products
  • Not easy to share (with exception of cloud) with people who use other products.
  • Project feedback is clearer because people can see the steps as they happen.
  • Visual people feel like they can change a process step without needing to write it all out.
  • Quicker summaries can be delivered to a group of people.
Quicker process summaries and feedback before and after being precise. Can start with the big picture processes and steps then drill down to implications and deviations.
I have used both SmartDraw and MS Visio extensively. MindManager was chosen because of its integration with Office 2016 and pricing slightly less than Visio.
MM is good for brainstorming and showing processes. It is not good at showing how processes can be improved, for instance, if you look at some systems thinking by Peter Senge you can show the process but it is hard to show how one step is substituted for another.
