Managing a complex, cross-functional project: A user's view
Overall Satisfaction with QuickBase
Used by a large team to manage and monitor an equipment refresh project covering 150 remote locations and lasting 14 months.
Pros
- Top-level, graphical summary of overall project status, recent milestones and upcoming activities.
- Respository for all project-related documents
- Ability to drill-down into each site's specific characteristics
Cons
- Once the tool has been configured and deployed, using it to quickly see status is a breeze. However, creating a new project feels complex and is time-consuming. There is plenty of power, but sorting through and trimming down the options is not so easy.
Quickbase provides more capabilities to track/manage all aspects of a project (documents, issues) beyond just the project plan, and because it is cloud-based, users do not need a seat license- just a browser to view and navigate through the entire project template.
Smartsheet is fine for simple task tracking, but doesn't have the functionality to effectively manage a large, cross-functional project such as the one we use Quickbase for.
