Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance
We use the Unitrends Recovery Series Appliance as the primary backup and recovery system for our network. The Unitrends appliance allows us to have multiple copies of backups as well as the ability to create archive copies that are stored offline. It is being used by the IT department and it has saved us money compared to the previous solution that had a per month fee for backups.
- The system is a complete turnkey solution that does not require additional hardware or software to use.
- The Unitrends software includes all of the necessary licenses included so we do not have to deal with SQL vs. HyperV vs. AD type licenses. Everything is correctly detected once the client software is deployed.
- The latest system includes de-dupe that reduces the overall backup size when performing frequent backups.
- The Unitrends system allows for an "increment forever" backup option that makes it easy to let the system manage backup times and needs.
- The new UI is a good improvement over the old system, however it is not easy to understand "How do to start?" The layout is simple, however not very intuitive.
- The cost can be high to start out.
- The cloud based add-ons are not very well defined and seem to be lacking. The archiving to a cloud based system is not very easy to manage and seems prone to failure.
- Unitrends gives us a good security solution that allows for frequent backups should a file get deleted or become corrupted.
- It is a good solution that acts like an offline system, but gives us the online benefits.
- The negative side of Unitrends is the high upfront cost to backup a large amount of data.
We looked at various options and we selected Unitrends because of the complete turnkey solution. The hardware and software are both covered by Unitrends and should anything happen there is no finger pointing. Unitrends is able to remotely support the system should I have any questions and they are proactively monitoring the hardware. Should a drive start to fail they will contact us, and ship us a new drive ASAP to get the issue resolved.
