Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
Veeam Backup & Replication is one of the most essential softwares our company currently uses to backup all of our virtual machine servers to multiple different physical locations as well as offsite backups. It is currently being used by our IT department to manage two different locations and all our servers simultaneously.
Pros
- Great to backup all VM servers
- Works perfect for outside VM backups
- Fast and straight forward restore process
Cons
- Compression functionality only for Enterprise license
- Logs could be easier on details
- Issues can be tricky to resolve
- Must investment for companies that depend on VM
- License costs: positive
- Usage can be deployed on undefined VMs
We currently have between 10 to 15 virtual machine servers protected by Veeam Backup & Replication. All of them are also being backup to an offsite location. A great addition because we are able to easily add new virtual machine servers as we need.
Veeam Backup & Replication is being used and setup greatly to perform our backups to different local and offsite locations. Locally we are backup up on a QNAP machine and an EMC storage, both via SCSI connections to another server to regular hard drive storage for fast access as well as a daily full replication to another server. Offsite backup via the internet to a remote server. On different locations we also have another VM with Veeam Backup installed to be able to perform an emergency restore.
We currently have not benefited or used "verifying data recoverability, testing security, ensuring compliance, and sandbox testing" capabilities.
We started with Symantec Backup Exec in 2013 for our backups. while upgrading our equipment and infrastructure we migrated all physical server to virtual machines and also moved to Veeam Backup & Replication to perform the VM backups. We used both for restoring the files and Veeam Backup & Replication provided much better performance. It also gave us more confidence to make sure our backups are safe and easily available if needed.
