The service provision is good the accounts customer service is poor so I would struggle to give BC a better than average review, if only they could offer customers a better accounts service then the value would be much higher.

The drawback of not having on-the-fly segmenting and drill-downs makes the difference between a 7 and a 10 here. In another month, after I've worked with the new Webtrends Explore product, I'll come back and re-score this.Other than that ....The ability of the standard product to re-analyze back to 90 days is a huge differentiator.If you want some really finely-honed filters, content groups, etc Webtrends probably has the flexibility to set them up exactly as you want, by configuring them in the UI. This is really Webtrends' strength - once you know what you want, you can almost always get it out of Webtrends, fix it in place, and get great insights. Over time, Webtrends has added a lot of parameters to the data that its tag collects and you can do a lot with them. Webtrends' weakness, at this point, is that you have to do some thinking ahead for those finely focused reports. Of course, there are zillions of out of the box reports that area ready to go.Also, if you won't accept the usual SaaS model where your data is held elsewhere, Webtrends Analytics On Premises is just about the only thing out there that has any power. Ditto for needing to re-analyze data going really far back, or analyzing server log data.If you don't have a lot of IS support, meaning the ability to create code changes in the site when you want to change some of the configurations, Webtrends' smart tag and the many options in the admin UI can save you. (Don't let tag management vendors make you think that you won't still need IS all the time. You may not need IS per se, but you will need a technically savvy person to run the tag management!)

  • The Webtrends user interface is fairly easy to navigate and the reporting is pretty intuitive to figure out on your own.
  • The level of data that Webtrends provides is very helpful as an analyst to make appropriate optimizations for both the website as well as the paid advertising campaigns driving to the site.
  • For the most part, I trust the data that is collected by Webtrends since the site is being tagged and managed by a team of professionals at the company

  • If a customer has a query they don't listen to the customer they just look at ways to hide behind BC company policy. In the UK if a customer changes a subscription plan by law they have a 14 day cooling off period. BC doesn't allow a plan to be changed once it’s been upgraded even if this is within a 24 hour period. I understand that BC having to comply with international law is not going to happen and that's not what a customer would expect. But what I do expect is for their accounts department to actually consider and review a customer’s requests or simple error's made without just quoting company policy.
  • In my case, I noticed our website was being tagged as NOT SECURE in Google Chrome Browser. I knew BC didn't offer SSL when I tried it a few years back but that I would check to see if they added that service. Sure enough, they added SSL certificates last summer, that’s was great news. So I read that SSL only came with the Platinum Service Plan and upgraded at a cost of $264.13 . Then a few minutes later I noticed that actually, I could have purchased the SSL on my current Web commerce plan (Gold Plan) for just $80. Within 24 hours I requested the upgrade be canceled and to just add SSL to my current plan. After all, we didn’t need a Platinum plan for our needs we only needed the SSL certification. The accounting department said this was not allowed or possible due to their cancellation policy of NO REFUNDS. They even suggested I could change back to GOLD service in the summer and then pay another $80 to add the SSL that would be lost. This is not the service I would expect. In strict comparison and contrast to our domain is hosted with GoDaddy and they will allow customers to change service policy at any time and they always Pro Rata any billing need meaning the customer is never charged for a service they don't want at that time.
  • When a customer upgrades a service it should be upgraded for 12 months from the upgrade date. The old service remaining credit should be deducted from the new service subscription and BC should clearly display the upgrade price for the next 12 months. The customer should be given the opportunity to review the service cancellation policy before checking a check-box and then processing the order.
  • BC fail to communicate important service upgrades such as SSL certification added last year. Someone could have called me on that emails get lost these days so what’s wrong with a plan good old fashioned phone call
  • BC has changed their service plan names, that's not a problem in itself providing its communicated to the customer and that it is 100% adopted across all media platforms, user portal and billing etc. The WebCommerce Plan is also the Gold Plan and I was not aware of that so found it very confusing.
  • When upgrading a service plan BC should provide pop up windows to highlight the company cancellation policy which is good standard practice

  • In the past 2 years that I have been using Webtrends there was very little support and services/faq available online, which I've just noticed that they have started to address, which is great to see. For example, when I had a question on how Webtrends defines a certain site metric, they didn't even have a dictionary or reference guide online to help.
  • Customer service in general has been in issue for our agency in regards to response time to questions/troubleshooting and following through on client requests.
  • We have found that local market reporting can be limiting when you want to segment the data a lot further.

The simplicity of this platform is the main reason. BC is incredibly easy for first time users and very streamlined for experienced users. I also look at the integration with other Adobe products in my company. Being able to stay completely in one piece of software (Muse or Dreamweaver) for a full design and publish make much better use of my time.

I would be willing to try Webtrends again AFTER some research from other users. I would need to see that users mention better and faster customer support on questions and issues that arise while using the software. The software is capable of vast and incredible things, but if it isnt properly set up and supported during use, it is just a big hassel and waste of everyones time and money.

Overall it is a "plug and play" interface. The majority of the work is done in other software interfaces. Managing billing, user roles and custom reports are all that you need to manage in the actual BC user interface. For my business this is an incredible benefit as I have to leave my preferred software less.

The v9 admin interface and v10 reporting interface work as well as expected, but have a tendency to be pokey, especially for bulky reports and whenever you're connected to wifi. I much prefer using the REST API for all reporting for this reason, which simply dumps out the data and doesn't bother with the user interface.

I have used Adobe support for many of their products. I find that they are quick to respond and present a wide variety of support platforms from forums to online chat. Depending on the nature of the issue I am usually able to get resolution within 24 to 48 hours. With more complex issues I have never had a problem with Adobe dropping the ball.

Most of the time even highly complex issues are handled on the same call. I want to cite one support rep, Marlo, by name because he is phenomenally through and a product expert. When he answered my calls I felt better immediately.

Careful planning and patience. Use a non-public test site to fine tune tags and reporting. Despite best laid plans, there will be surprises when you collect the data, run the analysis and begin generating reports using the tool. Perform a tag audit to ensure tags fire as desired.

Alternatives Considered

We use Adobe Muse and this was our introduction to BC, we did not have a choice in this topic. But we have a good experiance with Adobe products generally as we also use most products within Adobe CC

Webtrends has its work cut out for itself considering you have the behemoth Google Analytics and Google Analytics Premium having a strong offering and brand recognition for the price of free. After reviewing the paid service I'd suggest you start off with GA as a cheaper alternative that is just as robust, if not much more flexible in regards to the reporting and goal tracking needs for our company.

Return on Investment

  • We do'nt have to worry about the website uptime and maintainence which means 100% avalibility to our customer to improvove our ROI
  • We only want to pay for services that we use and the problem with bundled package services is that you can end up paying for more servicves than you need or use. whats wrong with given customers a service tick box and then providing them a price for what they are going to use rather than lots of unused services that reduce ROI
  • We could have improved our ROI 7 months ago had we know about BC SSL certification upgrade, which improves SEO to improve our internet search results

  • WebTrends on-premise has a heavy initial investment for licensing, maintenance, and hardware. But once it is running, it just keeps going. Annual maintenance renewals have been our only cost for several years now.
  • Up until the last year, WebTrends gave us a good return for our costs -- it allowed us to create the reports that our users requested, and allowed us to reanalyze old data for new information.
  • WebTrends suffers in comparison to Google Analytics simply because it is not "free". But I But the experience I have in WebTrends allows it to produce many more benefits for our company.
