Avast CloudCare
Avast CloudCare is very competitively priced for a cloud-managed product. Its management console is excellent, easy to use, and easy to manage resources and policies. There is a good overview of all alerts and issues with clients, and it is easy to apply changes to multiple devices at the same time. It is also easy to split assets into groups and manage the group, whether it is just a specific policy or a particular setting or exception is needed.

I would strongly recommend FireMon for any IT/Security department that must maintain and support multiple firewall platforms. FireMon's ability to create a unified interface to view, audit, and even implement rules in a vendor-agnostic manner is excellent. If PCI audits are an issue, and providing firewall reports for PCI is difficult, this is something FireMon solves immediately out of the box.If a business is entirely using a single firewall platform, FireMon still provides benefits, but the recommendation would not be quite as strong depending on the capabilities of the native management platform.

- Some features could be added to the existing functionality which include NAT rules usage
- Rule expiration normalization from firewalls rather than entering them in rule documentation
- .csv exports of the files from the firewall pane only gives usage for 30 days by default and that should be increased

For the most part, using the tool is straight forward. Some of the menus could use some work on usability.

The support at Avast CloudCare is excellent; the guys are professional and know their product very well. They have helped us (in the latter years of us using the product), on multiple occasions, especially when an upgrade goes wrong. Community support is not as high, but that is to be expected, as other products are much more popular and have much better adoption. All in all, although being an average Antivirus solution, the management console is excellent, and the support the company offers is excellent too.

FireMon technical support is awesome! They respond quickly to our requests and they are well trained and very knowledgeable about the tool. Some issues have to be referred to the development team, but technical support largely provides solutions for any issues that we may have.

Avast CloudCare
When the product was initially deployed in our organization, it was a stable, dependable, and easy to use Antivirus protection. However, the newer versions, under Avast CloudCare management, had significantly reduced the detection rates, turning it into not as great a product as it once was. This lead me to look into alternatives, and eventually, we decided to replace the product with Sophos Intercept X, with EDR. It is a much more expensive product; however, the features are much better, and the added functionality of, for example, web filtering saves costs elsewhere, so works out only a bit more expensive.

We were impressed with FireMon's native cloud support and compliance reporting, in looking at other vendors we were not too impressed by their ability to support cloud-native technologies and their reporting was less than stellar. We did not want a solution that would last only a few years and FireMon was able to provide us with what we needed, and we felt comfortable that they would support the direction we were going. By far they were they were the most engaged with the vetting process.

As a security professional let me first acknowledge that I know better than to say or document much in a public forum. That being said I have recently had reasons to sit down and future proof our current implementation. We're as virtual as virtual can be - if we acquired 300% of our current device load tomorrow responding to that need (aside from licensing) would just be a matter of spinning up more VM's in house, and cutting the appropriate tickets for where syslog info gets sent.

- Below average protection.
- On the flip-side it is cheap.

- The tool provides consistent, measurable compliance reports that help keep our business safe.
- There was no migration path from version 7 to version 8. An audit requires seven years of records, so the old system needed to stay active despite support ending. There was no easy way to export the ticket information for storage and reference.
- There have been some licensing challenges and confusion over how devices need to be licensed.
