For an organization that has small, medium, or large data collection, Snowflake provides the best infrastructure to store, manage, utilize and analyze the data. Especially for companies that are growing at a really fast pace, it helps you not only with warehouse capabilities but also its connection with several BI tools give you the flexibility and option to connect and analyze the data [in] real time.

  • If required, SAP S/4HANA may be installed and configured on the cloud.
  • Because of the simplification of functionality, IT personnel may be able to devote more of their time and resources to delivering services rather than doing maintenance tasks.
  • Assist businesses in making better decisions about their operations by providing better information.
  • SAP HANA is a superb web solution with advanced remote data synchronization capabilities that is very quick and easy to use.

  • Better workload management - de-prioritize long running queries.
  • Better scheduling and monitoring platform for XSA jobs. Built-in scheduler.
  • Dependency analyzer like the one for CDS views for Calculation views.
  • UI development options like ASAP selection screen for simple use cases.
  • Built-in table editor.

Snowflake

  • Snowflake UI can be clunky and breaks sometimes, which can be annoying
  • Snowflake has to be paired with the Data Build Tool (DBT) to allow for templating and macro usage. No inbuilt solution.
  • Snowflake Python connector development doesn't necessarily track popular packages such as Pandas as quickly as Pandas releases
  • Could do with better machine learning capability over warehouse tables, but I assume this is coming soon

At this moment we are not focusing on SAP, however would love to in the future. This is primarily because of our limited ability to generate more revenue to fund for SAP partnerships and products. Our initial tryst with SAP Partneredge open ecosystem didn't go as planned and we have shelved that for now. Hope we can revive in the future

In addition to the points described in the previous parts of the review, I believe that as I gain more experience with the product over time, I will be able to better describe my experience with this tool. Meanwhile, I can confirm that the possibilities presented to my organization by the change to SAP HANA, at the moment, have been very important to evolve the analytical and strategic field towards a new path.

The interface is similar to other SQL query systems I've used and is fairly easy to use. My only complaint is the syntax issues. Another thing is that the error messages are not always the easiest thing to understand, especially when you incorporate temp tables. Some of that is to be expected with any new database.

It integrates well with other applications across geographies as well as multiple data sources. Its predictive analytics function really helps to thanks HANAs advanced data vis. abilities. Overall, the support from Snowflake has been very good. Since we are one of the major users for Snowflake and have a dedicated tech team to solve all the technical problem on our way. On the side of the technical problem, any sql related questions can be found from everywhere online.

Professional GIS people are some of the most risk-averse there are, and it's difficult to get them to move to HANA in one step. Start with small projects building to 80% use of HANA spatial over time.

In my experience running the data management practice at InterWorks, we believe that cloud data warehouse products will eventually serve the majority of data warehousing use cases and power data analytics at most companies. Of this cohort, we believe that Snowflake is the best among them for most customers. It's easier to manage, in many cases faster, and in almost all cases it is less expensive because of the ability to automatically resume and suspend depending on usage.

  • Faster data retrieval makes real time analysis possible.
  • Option to create multiple warehouses enable us to track usages and cost by departments.
  • Option to scale up/down computational warehouse to support peak hours and month end loads makes Snowflake cost effective.
  • Zero-copy cloning reduces storage and deployment cost.
  • Multiple users can access the same amount of data without deadlocks which is a common scenario in relational databases.
