Oracle delivers superior performance and uptime. If managed correctly, the TCO does not have to price it out as an option. It delivers superbly and we see it as a workhorse database. It scales and we run over 100+ multi terabyte databases on the platform. We do see performance drops for the other two platforms when they go beyond 10+ TB.

Oracle is number 2 based on my experience. My first preferred choice would be DB2 or Informix. The architecture of Informic is pure 100 % dynamically scalable. I have done many labs on proving the concept of Dynamic Scalable Architecture using Informix/DB2 products. Also from a DBA admin perspective, DB2 has much simpler UNIX-like command lines, which makes it easier compared to Oracle SQLplus

  • Oracle Database 12c is able to handle large quantities of data with extremely good performance. My organization happens to be the largest user of the ERP software that we run, and it is able to handle tables with millions of rows.

Oracle Database 12c has a wide user-group and community and it's easy to set up. Also, there are a lot of skilled database technicians who are conversant with Oracle Database 12c; therefore acquiring won't be a step down or become a challenge due to lack of a practitioners to help in managing and using it to your benefit.

With Oracle Database 12c, one is assured of high availability and high speeds on concurrent access from different users. The security is also very high with constant updates and peer to peer communities that help users with problems faced by other users which they may be facing when they are using the software.

Not at my current employer, but previously I have evaluated and used all Microsoft SQL Server, Amazon Web Services (AWS), PostgreSQL and MySQL. All of them had their own advantages and disadvantages. SQL Server had great built in tools like SSIS and SSRS that integrated well with our reporting and data analytics needs. Amazon Web Services is a great tool for large scale data storage on the cloud with desirable features, lower maintenance costs and is a great alternative to on premise data management. PostgreSQL on the other hand is known for its ease of use and maintenance. On the other hand MySQL has now been acquired by Oracle, but is a product that is still open source and is great for web applications and building tools that do not have to be implemented at enterprise level.

Oracle database is very efficient in storing data whereas Oracle API helps manage and develop APIs from the web, Android, and even IOS.
Oracle database has a variety of options in terms of supporting other platforms, analysing data and also efficient as a data mining tool.
Oracle is compatible with my OS and that's why I use it.

I have heard from other similar institutions that they have problems unique to their DB2 database when using the ERP that we have in common. I found the DB2 database system difficult to interact with when I had to use it for a project many years ago. I personally developed some smaller projects using MySQL and while it worked well for that, I don't know that I would use it for an ERP.

it was not my choice for Oracle 12C, but during the years I've learned on the advantages. If I would choose the Oracle 12C, I'll take it for the possibility to start from Standard and to go to enterprise based on a business case of use. I really like the possibility to have the logic in the database (triggers/ procedures/functions/packages)

We have not had the need to find other database solutions since I have been hired on at my organization so I have not evaluated other products thoroughly. Oracle Database 12c has not led me to search out another product because it functions competently.

Microsoft SQL Server ties you into a particular operating and particular hardware. Oracle will run on a wide range of different hardware and operating systems. This allows Oracle to run on LINUX, as well as on high performance hardware such as IBM PSeries, Oracle Sparc and IBM ZSeries hardware, providing a very high performance hardware platform.

Oracle 12c delivers a vastly superior and robust optimizer and thread management comparative to other database products that I have used. While other databases may be less costly, Oracle 12c gives the best enterprise data management solution by providing better data integrity, analysis tools and disaster recovery options as well as world class support.
