Overall Satisfaction with Automox

We use Automox
to automate the provisioning of applications and scheduled patching of Windows
OS and third-party software. 150 endpoints in a hybrid work-from-home environment
across multiple time zones.
  • Automating Windows Update on a schedule with reporting
  • Patches common third party software such as Chrome, Slack, Zoom
  • Installs software without the need for a VPN or LAN connection
  • Remotely execute PowerShell based on schedule or group
  • Grouping of Policies does not exist. Policies are similar to a GPO.
  • Reporting exists but has a lot of work needed to bring it up to par with other dashboards you may be familiar with.
  • The repository of pre built PowerShell Worklets needs to be larger to cover the basics of commonly used Microsoft GPOs
  • Remote management of software and operating system patching
  • Remote installation of software less than 1GB
  • Remote editing of the Windows Registry
  • IT labor is now spent designing and monitoring automations in Automox instead of manually updating machines or waiting for them to return to the LAN.
  • Software patching occurs on a regular cadence regardless or staff workload.
  • Remote Registry edits enable granular customization.
Automox is harder to use, less mature user interface, and lacks the ability to chain actions. Automox is more expensive. That said, Automox works over the internet without needing a LAN or VPN connection like PDQ Deploy. Automox has a unified interface and does not require knowing an administrator password to function. For a workforce, with staff at home or on the road or with unpredictable schedules Automox works where PDQ Depoly does not. Automox wins for us.

Automox works! If you dont know PowerShell yet, this is a good reason to learn. Remote management of endpoints where connection to a VPN or LAN is not possible or cumbersome. Automated software patching of operating systems and third-party software on a regular cadence. Replacement of existing Microsoft AD GPO infrastructure for remote users and work-from-home models. Basically, anything you can do via registry edits or PowerShell can be automated or remotely executed through Automox.
