Overall Satisfaction with Avalara AvaTax

It is used to calculate all sales tax within our company. With the sates we have Nexus, it calculates the tax and then we pay for the service for them to do our returns. This helps keep all in one place. Avalara Avatax keeps up with all the updates and rules associated with the different states. We now do not have to manage when a state updates their tax rules.
  • Updates for all states on tax rates
  • Avalara also files Canadian returns.
  • Most tax companies do not have the access to file Canadian returns
  • Better help sections on website
  • More help with tax questions
  • Processing feature at month end they should do more times a day
  • The program itself is expensive.
  • Each option you need to have done costs money
  • Helpful in the fact that any errors on the return they will investigate and then call if needed
Have good IT people on hand to understand the language of the program. Very detailed program
  • EDI
  • Companies websites
It is difficult, but your IT needs to be up to date on coding. Because if you need a testing site, that sand box costs money too.
The program is pretty friendly to use. Navigation is pretty self-explanatory. The reports you can make are not easy to manipulate and bring in your own fields, so Avalara's reporting feature could be more user-friendly on the topic of creating your own reports and picking columns.
Yes we do use Cert Capture. I am glad we do, but navigation on the site is not easy to understand.
They offer more services in foreign countries than other tax providers. This is why we initially decided to go with them. There is more to choose from with Avalara AvaTax.
Avalara is good at updating with current tax rates. keeping up with this is less taxing on us and more reliable. They could be more helpful with tax questions.
