Easy to navigate and plenty of customization
Overall Satisfaction with Canto
Canto is being used across the University, managed by University Communications. Employees can access it through their work portal. In my department, I use Canto to access approved licensed photos for my marketing collateral and website. It keeps the photos organized by topic and by the department. I can also email photos directly from Canto to my colleagues who request images. I can save my favorite photos on Canto and I can download the right file size and dimension (print quality vs web).
Pros
- Keeps files organized in folders.
- Easy sharing through email or link.
- Folders can be marked private, if needed.
Cons
- Faster loading times: Slowing loading thumbnails if it is a large folder.
- Auto-archiving photos after a certain date: helps with people who tend to go back to the same photo over and over in marketing collateral.
- Ability to crop and post photos directly to social media or integrate with Hootsuite.
- Easy to use interface lets people of any skill level collect the photos they want.
- Folders can be private so that others don't use photos which is great for when there are photos that only 1 department has the right to use.
- The images are now neatly organized and I can clearly see where we are lacking, which allows me to build a case to hire a photographer.
I've only used one that was built by my previous employer. Whatever product it was built from was hidden behind the branding and outward-facing name. Canto has a modern UI, whereas, the previous one felt like it was decades old. Canto search is fast, the other one constantly had errors in not finding keywords that should work. Canto doesn't require a lot of navigating to get where to need to go but the previous one I used had a deep level of folders you had to work through.
