Overall Satisfaction with Deputy

Deputy is being used across the entire business to cover 100+ shifts per 24-hour period. It provides a complete solution for all rostering, timesheets, and customized pay arrangements. Prior to Deputy, we were using a combination of other less suitable solutions, which did not integrate well with each other and required significant amounts of manual data entry.
  • Timesheets.
  • Training records.
  • Rosters.
  • Customer service and provision of advice to growing businesses--we had many difficulties getting assistance because our business had less than 250 staff, despite the fact that our business was growing quickly.
  • Better options for front-end management of training records (we find using the back end link much easier for adding training records).
  • Better functionality in the Android app.
  • Significant improvements to payroll accuracy.
  • Dramatic improvement regarding miscommunications/missed shifts.
  • Improved options for staff communication (newsfeed).
  • Workforce.com (Tanda)
Deputy is cheaper than Tanda; however, Tanda has significantly more features and easy customizations than Deputy. For example, I have been told that we will need to pay for custom work in Deputy to have a rule that adjusts any shifts that are less than four hours long to pay staff for the minimum four-hour engagement. Tanda has an easy-access tick box that does this.

Did implementation of Deputy go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Deputy again?

No

We have had some staff members have difficulty with using Deputy, although most are able to pick it up fairly quickly. Some of the back-end pages of Deputy are easier to use than the front-end pages, which seems a little strange but also impacts usability/ease of training staff (e.g., we have to show staff through the front-end and back-end pages and save bookmarks for the back-end links as the back-end pages cannot be accessed from anywhere in the front end of Deputy.
I did all of the implementation of Deputy myself, and I was happy with the way that I did all of this. However, attempting to implement certain customizations that I'm unable to do (due to Deputy restrictions on what users can access) has been exceptionally difficult, particularly prior to us reaching the 250+ employees mark.

Less appropriate if custom terms are needed, as these cannot be added or updated by standard users. Less appropriate for larger businesses.

More appropriate for smaller businesses that have complex rostering needs. The software works very well with 24-hour rostering arrangements.

Less appropriate with complex management structures, as access restrictions are not easily adjusted.
