Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use dotMailer for eCommerce marketing automation, life-cycle automation, cross-selling, and so forth. dotMailer is much more powerful than your standard email platforms in that it can perform eCommerce related functions out of the box. It doesn't have to be tailored to an eCommerce use case.

Segmentation by distance.
RFM segmentation.
Product recommendations.

Integration is overly complex.
Cannot progressively profile from anything other than an email address.
Too expensive.

Return on Investment

Gave us more granular segmentation than simply pages visited or products purchased.
Helped us segment local customers vs long-distance customers, and send different messaging to each.
It takes a product feed, so enabled us to launch personalized product recommendations in emails.

Drip from Leadpages, ActiveCampaign and Infusionsoft

DotMailer is built for eCommerce. Drip, ActiveCampaign, and Infusionsoft are not eCommerce platforms out of the box, though they can be tailored to that use case. DotMailer is especially geared toward retail businesses.

Well suited for a company with a larger marketing budget as this is a costly program compared to the other ESPs. If your use case is not eCommerce, you would probably be better off with a standard ESP like Drip.
